Hi , I have a 95 3/5 Metro that I want to tow a small aluminum boat with. I have already tested the rig and she tows fine. But I have had trouble getting brake/turn signals on the trailer. Everything is all fouled up now. :ashamed And I can't seem to get it straightened out. Does anybody know what I might be missing, Does anybody have a schematic of the tail light wiring on a 95 Metro. I heard the 2001 swift needs a tail light wiring converter or something like that to wire a trailer pigtail ? Is my car like this too ? Thank you for any help you might be in advance.

Yes it does need a converter. I had to have one on my swift to make my trailer light to work correct! You need one that is a 5 wire in and a 4 out at least that is what I used. They are very picky about the amp draw of trailer lights. I ended up putting new led tail lights on my trailer the night before I left to go to Geoplooza!

Since you have separate turn and brake lights, you need a converter.

Fresh Fish...mmmm....tasty!

In the old days (OK, it was 1980), I tried to use the converters, but they always died. I ended up using the existing trailer lights for tail and stop, and added separate lights and wiring for the turn signals. No converter needed, never had any more problems. You will need a pigtail with enough connections for the extra wires.

You might want to contact member Davegran - he just had a wiring pigtail installed in his Vert, and it was a very nice setup that even came with with a "plug in tester" so you could check operation without having to hook it up to the trailer.

Very straightforward to install once we verified all the wiring colors from the service manual schematics and figured out the one "mistake" we found in the 91 FSM for one of the circuits where both combination lamps were labeled "LH" :lol

You should be able to use the wiring schematics in the 1994 FSM in the forum library for yours. Al the wiring schematics you need are located in the "8A-" sections, Electrical Diagnosis...

Thank you all for your help. Its for my pop's car and the schematic looks a little intimidating to me. Anybody know what they charge to install it for you ? I hate to get anything worked on by others. I like to think I can do all the work on my Metro (or dad's) myself. But you guys did go through all this trouble to provide the info I need in order to do it myself. Thanks again guys

It is not that hard. You just have to look for the correct wire color for the system you are looking to hook up and verify it is correct. Just use a test light to probe the connector. If you need we can walk you through it.
