The shipping crate entertainment center is done, now it has to dry out and that's a fast thing in Arizona, so I let this dry then I can set it up

ok so its been a little bit since i posted any pictures so im going to go through where i left off on thanks giving. So before my dad left we decided to put together the engine for my geo and since i had no work space or light and no tunes outside in the kitchen it was.

Posted Image

Posted Image

plenty of light in here B-)

Posted Image

here is another trash item, it had a big hole in it so i cut the cork and repaired the back side with duct tape then used my finger to smudge wood glue all over all the cracks and it dried out very nice, now this is where i put coupons, bills and things i need to remember.

Posted Image

here i put new white silicone on the bathroom sink joints just to clean up the white and keep water from doing damage, i mean why not.

Posted Image

did it in the guest bathroom also. Yea i know it needs more repair but this will have to do for now i have more important things to do.

Posted Image

so i have a ton of building to do and i needed some saw horses, i used all scrap wood from a shipping crate to build these, now the special thing about these is that they are built for a tall guy like myself, im nearly sure these things will hold a truck in the air :hmm

Posted Image

so i use my computer quite a lot and im thinking i need to move it off the floor, i sweep every single day but there was a trash can sitting in front of the pc for 3 days, i moved the can to take it out...well i found a small dog being sucked into the intake on my computer :banghead

Posted Image

so one of my back sheds has a floor that had fallen in, i set the saw to just clear the thickness of the ply wood and set out to rip around the entire floor and find out why.

Posted Image

here is the issue, who ever made the shed only used 2 nails to hold this together, plus some termite damage didnt help, no worries i have a way to fix this with MORE SCRAP WOOD :beer

Posted Image

so i used more stuff from shipping crates and redid the floor all around and made the joints where i cut very strong so the ply wood has no saggy spots, now if i want i can haul engines in here and the floor wont fall in on me. also now i know where i can hide murder victims :deal

Posted Image

Posted Image

not bad right?

Posted Image

so i have a few more shipping crates left and i cleaned under my car port, there is piles and piles of saw dust under here.

Posted Image

i got the guest PC set up, and see how it all fits in the entertainment center I MADE? almost like i planned it that way ^o) guest PC is set up on an i3 16gb ram and a gt610 GPU on a 1080 62" TV, i have a usb hub and a 15 foot usb extention cable for couch gaming :gamerz

Posted Image

So then i learned my grandfather passed away and i ran off to utah to return the favor of my dad helping me, so now it was my turn to help him out and be there to help the family out.

Posted Image

so when i got back from the funeral my car had been sitting for a while and i have been bump starting my geo for over a month now because i am saving the money for my house. Well the car sitting dead for a few days made it truly dead and the fuel pump would not even kick in, i pushed and pushed and pushed....so i hopped on my scooter in the dark at 6 am on crap country roads and rode to wallmart 3 miles away picked up a battery then rode back and installed it. since i wear work boots i was able to stand on the back wheely bar and put my toes on the top of the battery and i rod allllllllllll the way back like that, nearly killed that poor scooter. So here is why i had to do this, because i made fun of scratchpaddy for bump starts and this was karma back to bite me hard. so most people would have called in sick to work, i did not, i took a video of myself riding in the dark sent it to my boss saying hey im be a little late today :rasp

Posted Image

whats this? more scrap trash wood from a shipping crate? yes you guessed correct, now some may wonder why i used 2 strips of wood vs 1 long one, well thats because it is adjustable and when it gets straighter i can make the stand longer....yea....yea, see i was usin my head this time.

Posted Image

ugh we have not had any pictures of food in quite a while, so lets get some super cheesy beer battered mac. Make mac like normal but drain and wash the pasta at the end then set back on the stove on MED-LOW heat and add a splash of cheap beer then boil out the fizz, add in milk bring up to temp but make it just a bit runny, next add in ricos jalapino cheese sauce (comes in can) you only need a few spoon fulls, add in some steak seasoning for flavor. next add powder then bring up to hot stirring constantly so it does not burn and boil off any liquid untill its perfect texture. dump into a HOT bowl dash some pepper on that pile of molty goodness and burn your face off from hunger because it took so much longer to make than regular box mac. but enjoy the hoppy punched up flavor of this super mac

Posted Image

so i have 2 days off and i asked david if he had some time, he was willing to help me get lumber in his truck because i would have to made 3 trips in the peace geo to haul all this back to my place. total cost of all this wood was $459.98 thats 400 fence planks, 10 bags of cement, 10 treated 4x4 posts PLUS i had a 15% off coupon that came in the mail i used to help me out on this woooo :rocker

Posted Image

So by the time the truck was unloaded and all was set it was dark outside and i didnt want to start building in the dark. I took this coffee table outside and sanded the top to match the texture and roughness of the entertainment center i built. Oh and for any one wondering why the dishwasher is open all the time is because i air dry the dishes.

Posted Image

so here we are painted to match the entertainment center.

Posted Image

ok sooooooo here we are today, now what an ordeal, so i didnt take any pictures but ill do my best to explain. i tore out this part of the fence and there was 2 4x4 posts in the ground with cement, and any one who knows arizona clay its nearly impossible to dig out. i used my engine crane to pull the one out but the one closest to the wall i used the cut off wheel on the angle grinder to burn my way through the wood post :rofl so the post i was able to reach with the crane broke off about 1 foot from the ground :banghead so i drilled a huge hole in the wood post and pounded a chunk of rebar through it, now the crane wont reach it...crap, where is the chain....well i dont have a chain, so i welded more rebar to the part i pounded though the wood and made a big frame to grab onto with the crane, i set it to 1 ton and started to crank up, well i got to the weight limit and the ram would not go any more, ugh so i started to dig and use a hammer to bust the cement out of the ground and continued to crank then the crane was able to pull the WOOD free from the cement leaving a massive chunk under ground. i thought well thats fine ill continue to bust it up and dig... :news and i lasted about 5 mins and gave up. SOOOOO since that post was 8 foot and i needed to put a post exactly where the cement chunk was i decided to use 10 foot fence runners to avoid the 8 foot post holes, now im 2 foot off set and ill miss all the post cement chunks the rest of the way down the line :rofl

Great work on the house so far. Nice face on that piston. :P Your entertainment center setup makes me think of the Maxell guy.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. My grandmother passed away just before Thanksgiving. I wasn't able to make it to the memorial service in upstate New York, but I just met her brother in San Francisco this past weekend.

About bump starts: why spend the money when you can still get it to work? ;)

:+1 If it still works use it. But you mean none of those cars had a good battery?

Never read this until now, I very nearly bought a $13K house last week, until I learned there were already multiple offers on it. Need to get some ideas for cost saving creativity.

Here is a preview of the fence. The wood planks are still wet and have not fully dried out, making the oil soak take forever. They stay soggy and greasy for over a day, where as when you oil old dry rotted planks it soaks up a TON of oil instantly.

Posted Image

Then Suzuki gets mad at me because I won't touch her white fur with my oily hands and she wants to play so bad. It's all for the better tho, big open yard to play and run.

so to coat the boards in an even coat of oil i have been using a paint roller and paint pan, to keep things from spilling and keep the ground clean. This takes a very long time to do its rather annoying because i dont have any where to set the wood up to dry out so when i go to install it on the fence i am touching fresh oil and it gets all over me.

Posted Image

i introduce the board oiler, i have a box that i have lined with wallmart grocery bags so the bottom of the box is soft reducing leaks in the plastic liner. I have lined the box with super thick construction plastic X2 and screwed wood to pinch the plastic down so it wont fall into the oil.

Posted Image

i used an old BBQ grate so the wood can drip back down into the oil bath and not waste any or spill it on the ground, i placed it at the end of the box that way after i dip the wood the drips fall right back into the bath. i can dip and drain 10 planks at a time now. Reason this is needed is because i am sick of using that roller and it takes for ever to coat all 6 sides of the wood.

Posted Image

further along the fence was this prickle tree that served no use at all, no shade, no flowers, nothing. It was in the way of my fence so i hate to say it but good bye tree. I did not have a real saw so i used a cut off wheel to burn my way through the tree, then i found this saws all blade that i wrapped in tape so i could hang on the end of it, hacking and burning my way through i cut the tree down.

Posted Image

now here is the file cabinet i got at good will for 10 bucks, some times driving a geo is just :banghead

So to start off here I decided to clean up and organize with my new file cabinet. I ordered folders on amazon then set to work on putting stuff where I can find it.

Posted Image

This is the section for cars and books only.

Posted Image

Now the table is cleared off because I had stacks of papers that I can't toss, but are not particularly needed at the moment. Then I swept the floor and mopped.

Posted Image

Next I set outside to continue building my fence, I dug this hole for the main support post of the gate and found pipes :banghead so my post hole didn't go as deep as I wanted or as wide as I wanted, I dug out by hand then set my post in best I could to avoid pipes.

Posted Image

Here is the trick part, I drilled a 5/8 hole in the 4x4 post then drove a 4' chunk of rebar though the post and into the ground under the sidewalk, then I drove 3 more 4 footers left and right and welded them all together at where they all came to rest, after that I filled the hole with 60 pounds of cement. It is very very strong to hold the gate up.

Posted Image

While the cement was curing I welded up some hinges on flat plates that came off a shipping crate, just spot welds for now so I can make adjustments if needed.

Posted Image

Then I welded up my gate frame and I made some adjustments to battle sag, I make the top rails an inch shorter than the bottom rails and it seems to sit flat after sagging into place :dunno

Posted Image

So here we are with the gate, the left side swings open on it's own ever so slightly so it must be a little crooked. But when I put wood up on this and get it all set nice, I think it will hold up for a long long time.

Exes out, peering eyes, and the dog in, will help with the bird problem also because the dog won't have birds just hanging out in the yard.
