Melody came to our home in need of some love in the engine compartment. Forum member Willr reached out to me when his wife's car (motor) gave up. They have been slowly doing upgrades and so forth- and used the faithful Melody in a move from Idaho to Utah. She is relatively clean inside- and he has painstakingly applied peal and seal as an insulator- the revious owners loved how much it cut down on road heat transference. She has some external problems that we aren't going to fix. Instead- she will get a refreshed motor, and light cleaning- and be for sale- Or, I will drive her out to my sister in Nebraska. My niece is suffering from osteosarcoma- and my sister struggles financially with the mounting medical bills. I just don't know if she can drive a stick. Running well Metro's go for about a grand here. It's going to take some time- but she'll be on the road again. I want to say thanks again forum member Willr.- I am glad to save one from the crusher. A photo will be up in the next few days- Edited by econoboxer, Sep 3 2015, 07:51 AM.

Congrats on saving one from the crusher. Sorry to hear about your niece, perhaps your sister has a neighbor who could work with her on how to drive a stick? Or maybe she already knows... Best of Luck! |

![]() ![]() ![]() compression results in: cy1 1 dry 25 wet 25 cyl2 dry 75 wet 85 cyl 3 dry 10 wet 10 yes- we know how to run a compression test- so- that explains that. Willr if you were driving 80 mph in this- with a motor that is shot- that would go some ways in explaining what happened to her. I am assuming you've lost/broke rings and have severely burnt valves. In the process of tear down in the next couple days. I've pulled my motor- the one hiding in the corner since I put Duke together- for a teardown inspection- so far- what I am seeing in this potential donor- is a can of worms- will get more to that later. Also- its a maroon color- same as Mahana- Edited by econoboxer, Sep 1 2015, 11:38 PM.

Has a luggage rack.... nice little adder. Every 4 door I have seen in my area is a automatic.... I do not relish the change over to manual. |

Thanks tanner. lol. Motor has a burnt valve on number 3, and a melted piston on number one. The pistons were visibly loose in the block- so- could have been a cheap rebuild prior to previous owner- and block was overbored- but reused std pistons- that is how loose they were. The fact that this car could go 80 mph with only one functional cylinder impresses the heck out of me. the coolant tube disintegrated when we pulled it out. Going to need a coolant tube- anyone have one? Still looking things over. I like the luggage rack too. Edited by econoboxer, Sep 3 2015, 12:15 AM.

i have used the coolant tube from an auto, i used the pipe bender to give the end the right curve to clear the clutch. its been that way for a long time now. I suppose you could use some heat and get a really nice little curve to it. if i remember correctly the auto trans coolant tube is more straight over the trans and the manual one has an upward lift about 30mm or so. half price weekend at pull it yards could use a tube from auto or manual

The valve burned out somewhere south of black foot on our way to pick up my sister from school in rexburg. it would still get up to 80, it would just take longer. The next Monday the motor gave up the ghost after the hills off the 215. Must have been when the piston melted. My wife learned to drive on that in our driveway last year. reverse forward reverse forward and repeat... for two hrs |

We were still averaging 47 mpg before all that. Sometimes 42 if we were late for work a few days in a row. |
