Econoboxer, I've been reading this thread and I am impressed by how fast you take care of business. Simply amazing all the stuff you did to that car in such little time. Congratulations. |

Met up with another forum member for new to me license plate bulbs- whose ears aren't broken. Geomojoe- Thanks for the replacement exterior door handle- the new to me window crank, the various other miscellaneous parts to bring this car interior to a very nice presentation.(door handle screw cover plastic retining pins, rubber pieces, new to me lower b pillar cover) an e-brake cover-a pair of frontfloor mats that he had laying around. The carpet in here needs a good vacuum. Reminding everyone that the wasatch metro meet is coming up. October 24. Edited by econoboxer, Sep 24 2015, 08:49 AM.

Thanks geo glenn for the part numbers for the suzuki o-ring. http://www.mcmaster.com coolant o-ring p/n 93125K71 the distributor o-ring p/n 93125k61 Installed an esteem accessory handle- AKA- the panic handle- or 'OHH SH!T' handle for my passenger- and ease of hanging dry cleaning when its picked up. Installed the rear license plate pigtails with lights that geomojoe gave me off ZXTjato's blue four door(totalled car- and wasp incubator) so thanks guys for the parts- they were definitely needed. gently filed on the plastic interior door handle to re-install the door handle trim- making it a little easier to remove-- if there is a next time I have to be in that door. It has the dual din radio with cassette- but the clock does not illuminate- is this repairable? Edited by econoboxer, Oct 9 2015, 09:51 AM.

Anything is repairable. All depends on the amount of surgery you wish to do. Hopefully Mythstae, or MightMetroMouse, will chime in with the "how". Nice ride! Congrats.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Without the internal diagrams and troubleshooting from the manufacturer it would be difficult to say what it is, unless it's using a light bulb (likely based on the age of the unit) and it's burnt out. If it isn't the bulb then most techs would just buy another radio to replace it. If you are determined to try to fix it, start with the lighting wire in the harness/plug and confirm you have power on that wire. If the wire has power then open the unit and look for the bulb, it should be next to the screen. If it's a standard incandescent bulb it is probably a "grain of wheat" bulb. Really small and not particularly fun to work with. Measure the size of the bulb and you should be able to find them on eBay. Other bulbs should be available as well. If it has an LED, it's less likely to be burnt out, but it is possible, check for voltage at the LED. If the lighting is integral to the screen then check for voltage at the light input line (if you can figure out where it is) and if there is voltage then you would have to find a screen of the same size and features, meaning you likely need a bad unit with a good screen to scavenge from. |

update:tore down the original motor, since I am building a new one for the comet- the crank bolt is on tighter than anything- this poor motor had been through a tough spell. also:Melody blew her head gasket in November- I'm not sure why- but we're getting to it soon. |

This car will have a new owner soon- being sold to a deserving 18 year old- who needs it- for the cost of parts. We love this kid. |
