You can always try the "tie wrap trick" first and if that doesn't work, go back in and try replacing it or the resistor, and if that doesn't work because the problem was in the "other" component or the wiring circuit go back in again and use the applicable FSM diagnostic procedure to identify the problem in either the resistor or the switch or the wiring then fix what's broken... Or, you could just use the FSM diagnostic procedure first to identify whatever is not working normally and fix it. If it is the switch, you still have the option of using the tie wrap "fix" to see if it takes care of it, which it often does when the switch is actually the component with the problem. also, on a related note, there are a bunch of leaves and bug parts stuck in the system that get blown out through the vents frequently. where would i need to dig around to clear that out? |

No need to put a new switch in (on top of the fact that the switch is an integral part of the heater controls that would require replacing the whole assembly), follow the link in Snowfish's post for repair instructions. I have this done in both of my Metros. You don't even have to remove the switch or the assembly, just everything covering it. |

You have to learn how to use a test light or multimeter to find out where voltage is going and where it is not going or replace parts till you replace the one that is not working. |

You have to probe the wires going into the switch. Using the wiring diagram find which wire is providing voltage in and which wires are outgoing. Turn switch to off and check input voltage wire to switch. Is voltage present? Turn switch on and see if voltage is going out of switch on the perspected wire. First check the HTR fuse in the fuse panel under the dash and see if it is blown, then check input voltage at the blower switch with the ignition switch turned on. Input voltage should be present on the light green wire into the switch. |

i know, but the whole area is either jb welded or urethaned in place, there is no way to get a multimeter or check light in there. |

If you want your fan to work your going to have to start cutting or whatever it takes to get to it to check it out. |

Or you're going to need a replacement and you're going to have to splice it in. |

Modding and Repair Rules... #1 Make it reversible. #2 Make it look like it's supposed to be there. Again, you know what you have to do. No more whining. Either fix it, or live with it.

Follow the wires coming from the switch down to the next connector and test them there. |

You know the fan switches can crap out.
After fuses, and blower motor test, you may remember this.

There you go.
