Airbag light flashes

I recently started noticing that my airbag light on my dash blinks about 3 times before going on. This happens whenever the key is in the on position or starting the car. It does go out after 3 times, but it never did this before. Anything I should be concerned about?

YES! Be concerned why it wasn't working correctly before! :lol
It is suppose to flash as you turn on the ignition to let you know all is well with the air bag system. That is also why all of the rest of your lights come on as well.
Fix anything latly? :hmm
BTW
Are you sure its three flashes? Its supposes to be seven. ^o)

Title: Airbag light Flashes

Yeah - that happens to me too...usually when I put a fiver in her G-String.

I get a heavy flash with a ten-spot.

Nice try TimmyD and gave me a chuckle but does not help. Thanks for the visual with your pic.

What do you mean "wasn't working correctly before"?? It WAS working correctly before so that is why I posted this question. I KNOW all the lights come on as well when I turn over the engine. No I did not fix anything recently. I will be absolutely sure the number of flashes, but I'm sure it's no 7. Less than 7. And even if it is a faulty airbag, who knows if it's the driver's side or right side? Never mind, first things first. count the number of flashes. I do have an OBDII scanner, but it's the fameous P0400 which is the EGR system which I already have discussed in another thread.

An OBDII scanner is not going to help. The SIR system is a completely different system with a completely separate controller. There is a diagnostic test that will require you to have access to the controller itself, but it's not for the faint on heart. Seven flashes on ignition on, means the system is working correctly.

Your best bet would be to get a hold of the SIR section of the FSM.

Barring that, if you have questions about if your system is working correctly, I would encourage you to take it in to a qualified shop and have them take a look. You don't want to :screw around with airbags. That :shit will blow up in your face...literally! :lol

Please just call me; "Schultz"

I have the complete SRS system from the Swift available if you want any or all of it.
Do your testing first
"!TEST! Do Not Guess"
Then let us know what you need.
FWIW it sounds as if it is working correctly.
Turn ignition on, light flashes then goes out = system good
light does not come on at all = system bad
light comes on and stays on = system bad
light comes on - flashes - stays on = system bad

OK, I tested it 10 times. The airbag light flashes exactly 7 times and then goes out.

I guess I have not been all that observant because I just noticed it flashing recently.

I realize that all the lights come up and are supposed to go off, but none of them flash like the airbag one (again only recently).

So I guess it's working properly and not to worry about it, right?

I am also not going to worry about the EGR fault code because the valve was taken out and cleaned and I"m not going to buy a new EGR valve, but that's a whole new topic.

BTW, what is an SRS system from Swift?

Thanks!

SRS = Supplemental Restraint System = Air Bags

7 flashes and out means the air bag system ahs run it's self diagnostic test and found all to be good.

EGR fault code is sometimes set by the valve on these cars but VERY commonly it's the passageway through the head or the vacuum lines to the EGR valve that get crudded up and cause reduced/no function causing the code to set.

One last thing, just to make sure. Why does my housemate's Camry dash lights go on and instantly off, no flashing involved. Is this just a Geo thing?

yeah I think it is just a geo thing-and clean those egr passages-that will probably get rid of that fault code-cost: i exhaust gaset 1 egr gasket

Instead of clogging up this thread that is for airbags, here is the post I started about the egr system. Even you chimed in there. I hope someone can respond over on that thread. Thanks again.

Thank you, but I have this gut feeling that, that's not going to happen unless I have someone that is more auto technically knowledable than myself without going bankrupt.
