Yes that is the "Stud" or "Bolt" closest to the firewall.... is it a stuck bolt or a stud that needs a nut on it?... (I don't remember whenever I removed the engine.) |

That bolt is stuck in the tranny. There is a nut that goes on that when you install the block. I can't tell very well from the picture, but it looks like its shorter than it should be? Any chance it broke off?? It also looks like you gnarled up the threads to get it out? Can you get a better picture of this, and post it?? |

Jeff is correct. That bolt is the stud that is located just below the starter and just above the axle. Like suggested, heat the bolt up with a hand torch and once hot use a candle and melt some of the wax into the threads. Heat it up again and apply some more wax. Put a good set of vice grips on it and remove it

So, is it a stud thats supposed to be there with a nut securing it on the other side or is it a broken bolt?

I can't tell what it was ... But, whatever that thing was doesn't much matter anymore - since it's the only thing that matters now is getting it out and replacing it with what's supposed to be there, which is a stud and nut.#s 25 & 26 in the diagram. GM Parts East link You should be able to get the flange nut and either an M10x1.25 stud (or a bolt and cut the head off) and from any decent hardware store with metric fasteners. I made a slightly longer stud from a bolt, which made it much easier to index the engine to the transaxle. I also (temporarily) used a longer bolt in the upper forward location so everything could be lined up and held in place better before drawing the engine and transaxle together, then replaced it with the correct size. Okay, I have another question... When I was trying to install the fly wheel from one engine to the other this spacer? Wouldn't let me put the bolts on with it in place, is this needed?.... ![]()
