Okay, few things before she can hit the road. Coolant hose and some wiring issues. She runs really well after a good cleaning. |

I spent a few hours working on her today. Added left speaker cover. Replaced driver door panel. Old one had rips in it. Replaced drivers side door handle. Disconnected the fkin auto door locks Adjusted the TPS Replaced Air filter Replaced IAC Sensor Replaced IAC Sensor wiring (it was ripped off) Put a plug on the air filter holder where a hose would have gone for diff model. Added panel that goes under steering wheel Removed a security system that was installed. Removed random push button that was connected to nothing Removed broken rattling exhaust manifold heat shield. (I'll put another one on soon) Replaced gauges with one with the RPM gauge Added clear fuel filter to engine bay so we can monitor fuel quality Replaced radiator cap with one of the pressure release tab versions Replaced the leaking coolant hose Replaced bad coolant sensor Burped the coolant system and got all the air out Replaced spark plugs (NGK copper. Had Bosh Platinum shit. Noticeable difference between em) Replaced PCV Valve Removed dead stock radio (anyone have one for sale cheap? we want to keep it stock looking) Added and tested an old school push style cig lighter. Tested all the relays Checked all fuses Reset cam timing with timing light. Idles at 800rpm and has quite a bit of pep. Hood says to set timing at 5, but that almost seems a bit too low. Going to look on forum for other posts about it to see what others have tried. Tomorrow New hatch lifts Install rear seats (I have a split version we are going to us) Install rear parcel shelf Install a spare radio I have laying around Oil shifter and then replace the assembly Replace the radio/ac bezel (I broke the one by accident today. Brittle pos) Change oil (let it run with seafoam for a while today) Replace wipers (Have some nice TRI style blades) Remove seats, use wire brush drill attachment to remove all the rust on the floor and spray paint it all then install new carpet (pulling from mangled since its not gonna need it for what we are building it) Rotate tires so 13's are in the back and the 12's are in the front. (wanna use up the 12's before we switch to all 13's) Replace valve cover gasket Rebuild lifters (can hear one clicking. if all lifters are ok pop the head off and check the valves. If I didnt need a car to use right now I would just go ahead and do a rebuild, but I'm without a car since divorce and Greg is being kind enough to let me use his metro) The transmission is shifting a bit rough. I think it just sat a bit too long. I'm going to drain the fluid and refill a fair amount with Lucas transmission fluid. In the past I've used it on 4 automatics and had them come back to life. If that doesn't fix it I have 2 spare auto transmissions ready and waiting. Thees also a filter that can be swapped out, but tbh I've never had to swap one so i'll have to look up how to do that. Front breaks work, but I can feel a warp in one of the rotors. I have a box of brand new brakes, but no extra rotors running around. Prob going to just run to oreillys and buy new ones. Just hope the calipers are in decent condition. Future: Sound system with a sub. Doesn't have to be over the top. We want to keep this one clean and simple looking. Nightmare can be the crazy metro. I have a new set of studs and nuts for the tires so we can run the 13 inch tires safer. Also have brand new rear brake drums for a 95+ metro so the holes are the right size. Eventually we will replace the front suspension with a 95+ version so we can run the bigger brakes with the 13's. Eventually might run 14's as money allows. Start small and keep it simple for now though. Need a new pipe that connects the air filter to the fender. The one we have now has a bunch of cracks where it connects on the motor side. I have like 4 of the damn things, each one broken the same lol. Might be worth it to just buy some 2 part epoxy and patch all of them. Battery tray has a crack and a chunk missing. I have another 2, but they are all cracked. Again one tube of epoxy would fix all of em. Might be worth doing. Theres 2 more metros that need complete rebuilds in the yard so I'm sure I'll need em. Fix the minor body work. It would probably be easiest to just wait until Pick n pull get another light blue metro and go grab a hood and fender. I have another fender that has some small minor damage to it that we can swap it with for now. It at least gets the rust off the car. I'll find some light blue paint and touch up just the rust on the hood so it wont spread and might help it look at least a little better. Greg's gonna replace windshield. (he works at a glass repair place) Seat Covers Redo tint on rear window and add to drivers side window. ---- This car just needed some tlc and a load of parts thrown at it. I had to get into all my stocks of parts and pull a bunch of stuff to get her all setup, but its gonna be worth it. Well worth the $100. Tomorrow she gets registered (already insured) and then we can use it! I think thats a pretty good turn around for a car that sat for 7 years. After that I've got a ford and a tracker to fix up, then theres 3 other metros I have motors to put in and build. I'll keep posting updates as we go. Here's a few pics. I'll take some better ones of it all together tomoz ![]() Leaky hose. You can see to the left of the clamp where it was just spurting out a mist of coolant lol ![]() Cam timing set ![]() Lever pressure release style radiator cap. I really like these ![]() My cat, just cuz |

Changed oil and idle was a lot steadier. changed trans oil and added 24oz of lucas transmission treatment. 1st and 3rd gear are a lot smoother and stronger now, but 2nd gear doesn't do anything but slip. :/ I've got 2 spare auto transmissions so I'll just swap it out when I get a chance. Didnt get anything else done on it. My back gave out on me for the day :c |

The benefit of working on the metro is oily hand marks and a few scratches don't matter lol Yesterday she got taken on her first real run...and overheated the whole time. Had to keep stopping to let it cool down. Coolant is clean, rigged the fan to stay on when it was overheating and it didn't really help. That leaves 3 possibilities 1. Bad alt/water pump belt (it is tightened up as tight as it will go so prob) 2. Bat water pump (got a few spares so lets hope not, but can be fixed if so) 3. Thermostat is locked up. It did sit for a long time so maybe. I'm gonna go get started on figuring that out. -- Decided to leave the carpet out for now. The whole inside if filthy and I want to be able to attack all the panels and such with cleaners to get them clean again. Theres mold spots on the ceiling so I'm probably going to try bleach. I don't want a carpet all covered in bleach marks, but don't GAF about the seats since they will get seat covers anyway. |
