How long should I push it :hmm I've taped my torn CV boot 30k ago with duct tape right as the tear began. So there was no dirt getting in it How many more miles should I push it? ;)

You can push it until they get pretty noisy.

Factory CV joints last forever as long as the boot is intact, but they go very fast after the boot is torn. I am sure your CV joint is doomed now, so drive it as long as you can tolerate clatter at turns.

Replacing an axle is a 10 minute job, but be aware of poor quality Chinese aftermarket axles.

If its not clicking or vibrating, don't sweat it. You're probably up for some Guiness record or something. :lol

If you are concerned, you could always change out the duct tape...

Costs around $40 for a new axle. Swap it out and show your car some love!

It's a quick job, but it's definitely not 10 minutes.

I did my passenger side half shaft last year as I didn't catch that torn boot early enough as a lot of dirt got up in the boot while driving the dirt roads. The drivers side tore weeks afterwards and I got on top of it quick before it tore open. The thick heavy duty black duct tape does a great job :thumb . I put so much on there it is like a stiff cover. I put some more on the other day for safe measure. I dunno ^o) I'm not too motivated to do another half shaft lately, but I suppose its a good idea. The passenger reman shaft cost me around $45. So far the drivers side isn't ticking or making any sort of noise, but I suppose the grease is probably not too abundant in the duct taped CV boot ;)
