A friend of mine just bought a mitsubishi Mirage. I don't think it is as well built as my Metro. This Mirage is built in Thailand a 3rd world country. It is a CVT and the interesting thing is that on the hi way doing 75 mph the car is only doing 2500 rpm and is in ECO mode. My Metro would be doing 4000 rpm. I am not impressed with the car. It may be a modern age Geo Metro but in my opinion the Metro was a much better built car for it's day. The Mirage feels cheap tinny and a bit noisy for a modern day car. My Metro just feels better on the road and how sad is that? |

Nice troll! A metro owner complaining that another car is cheap and tinny is hilarious. Metros, especially the first gen ones weigh 1600 pounds and rust out because the steel is thin and they have little effective sound deadening. |

I have a Mirage, and I love it. My girlfriend has a Mirage, and loves it. My coworker has a Mirage, and loves it. I don't miss my Metro at all. My Mirage has 28k on it, and there is not a squeak or a rattle in it. It has alloy wheels, fog lights, Bluetooth, cruise control, power windows, power steering, power mirrors, keyless ignition, USB connection, rear wiper, defogger, automatic climate control, etc, etc, etc, and it gets BETTER mileage than my '97 Metro did. Adjusted for inflation, it cost about the same amount as a '97 Metro! Build quality is fine. Different strokes for different folks... |

I had a chance of driving a Mirage 12 years ago. It was a nice car overall, no complaints. I also had a chance of working on a Mirage, an Ecclipse, and a first generation Hyundai Elantra, which is a Mitsubishi design. My impression was that their engineering wasn't as good as Honda's, Toyota's, or Suzuki's, from a mechanic's point of view. Metro is a textbook example of how a car should be designed with repairs and maintenance in mind. |

The Mirage of 12 years ago is a completely different animal, but I have also heard that they were solid...if unremarkable...cars. I have never been a fan of Mitsubishi, historically, but I really do like this car. The Mitsubishis I know always have noisy, ticky, smoky engines and transmission problems. The current Mirage could handle better, but that is something they have remedied for the upcoming '17 model. Other than that, I really have no complaints, other than the interior plastics being somewhat scratch-prone. It get fantastic mileage, starts every time I hit the button, has a lot of modern accoutrements, was quite affordable, and is rather fun to drive (with the manual trans). And there are a lot of little things you don't expect on a sub-economy car...like 'theater lighting' (lighting that fades up and fades off) on the interior and a dedicated plastic grab handle for closing the rear hatch so you don't get your hands dirty. Is it a 'perfect car'? No. But it really is a 21st century Metro. |

If you were to buy a new mitsubishi why not get an IMiev? 70 miles per charge of electric fun, and silent acceleration. |

I own two Metros; a '94 XFI and a '98 base and a 2016 Mirage DE. It rides almost like a Honda, I drive it 145 miles per day.

I assume you mean a '15 DE? They are skipping the '16 model. The '17 should be out early this coming year. I agree about the ride...it's pretty plush for a sub-sub-economy car. Overall, I am pretty impressed with this little car. It's certainly inexpensive, but reasonably well done. It's nice to drive a car 350-400 miles and fill it up for under $20. The only other car I can think of that will do this is...the METRO!

This is the only forum that uses Hondas as a good comparison. I own many Hondas and I own a Metro. To me, they are quite similar. The early 90's Metro looks similar to my late 80's Civic and they really did feel quite similar. Anyway, fast forward to today. It is hard to compare my Fit to my wife's '93 (ish) Metro or even our '00 Metro. Of course I like the '07 Fit. It is strictly better at everything aside from fuel economy (33city/40hwy in my experience, roughly). If I purchase a new car, it would likely be a Mirage. I was struggling with my credit (had none) when I bought the Fit used (private sale) so I couldn't finance a new/used Mirage. |

It's incredible how much the automotive industry has improved. In the '90's, the Metro was the bottom of the barrel, price-wise. Now, the Mirage occupies the same spot, and look how much more you get for the same price. All those things CobraJet mentioned, with the exception of the rear defogger/wiper and power steering, weren't even available on the Metro. The Mirage is far safer, and even though it's heavier, and has more power, it gets the same or better mileage. The same thing has happened across all price points. Cars are so much better than they used to be. The only downside is, all that safety and emissions stuff has made them harder to work on. ![]() Hardly! Only ignorant snobs rag on Hondas anymore. Automotive journalists, especially ones with an enthusiast bent like Car & Driver, practically worship Honda. Mazda, too. I can't tell you how many times I've read "doesn't handle as well as the Honda" or "Doesn't shift as smooth as a Honda." Nobody likes Acura anymore, though... |

I would consider a new Mitsu if in the market for a car. but I would probably spend a few more dollars and accept a little less MPGs and buy another Civic. our 12 has over 120k now with Zero problems! |

because every time I leave the house I travel over 80 miles round trip. Kinda stupid to purchase a vehicle that would leave you stranded 10 miles or more away from your destination on EVERY TRIP. |

"remotely interested" is pretty steep. I'm remotely interested in anything with an engine that runs. Onto the 'Honda comparison' topic; I was speaking more towards car forums. Most car forums use Hondas as the punching bag for jokes. Most car enthusiast magazines are a bit more objective in there testing. For instance, Car and Driver has fairly uniform testing that isn't being seen through fanboy goggles. |
