I just replaced the second set of door handles on my 1992. I barely got a year out of them and hardly drove this car until I had problems with the 1994. These door handles are cheap junk plain and simple and no good alternative is available. I have a friend that can use Solidworks and some equipment to make a 3D model of any part and then CNC machine it from a better material. I am curious how much of an interest there might be. Apparently the pre-1992 and post 1994 models use a different style of handle so there are at least 3 types of these here. Both my cars use the same part so I wanted to see how much of an interest there would be in having these machined. I was also curious if the earlier and later model door handles are as crappy as these. Conor |

I told him both are junk so we would want both. The inside and outside ones both seem to break with equal frequency if you ask me. Would there be any interest in years before 92 or after 94? I am not real familiar with those years or if the door handles were also junk. Just curious??? Were the original door handles that came on these cars this bad? Conor |

Replaced broken handle in 2013. Handle broke again in 2015. We'll see how long this one lasts. Definitely interested if the price isn't too bad. |

Handles would be super cool. Also shifter bushings (for the linkage connection under the shifter) would be super cool made out of metal. They are simple and would be pretty easy to make and everyone with a manual trans would want them. |

All the replacement handles I have bought are junk. There appear to be none meant to last. I have one of the S-10 pickups with the extended cab and the 3rd door. That door handle was also a piece of junk. My dad had the same basic truck and has broke. They charged him a small fortune at the dealer to replace it. Then it started to break again. Then mine broke. I began looking online and found a $15 brass replacement handle that will last the life of the truck so I got one for myself and one for my dad. Why do people make stuff like this that is just guaranteed to break? That little loop of plastic will never hold up to extended use of opening the door. Conor |

I will talk to him tomorrow and see what he thinks the cost might be. Also, what material would be preferred? Aluminum? Conor |

Inside ones, I've never seen a broken one... I guess if you reef on em, you can snap them. Maybe the Mk2 cars, 89-91 are more prone. I see them usually discoloured... Outside handles... Depending on price... At least 2 sets of 89-94 and 1 set of 95-01 for me please. Inside and out! More if the price is right!

I will give him some 1992 to 1994 ones since I have them as an example and see what he thinks. What alloy of aluminum is ideal for this? He would want something common and of course the price of the base metal will be reflected in the final cost. Of course certain alloys are better than others but I think anything considered "Aircraft" grade should withstand opening and closing of doors just fine. Get me an alloy number to pass along as I know that will play a role. Conor |
