Just thinking, cause I haven't had my door panels off yet and no problem with my babied handles, about shaving the door handles completely off, and going electric. Here is a DIY Instructable door shaveAnd if you want a complete package kit Door opening kit http://geometroforum.com/topic/4653137/1/?x=20#new
These door panels are a breeze to get into anyway. Not like it is a day long job just to replace a door handle.

approximate machining and materials cost would be about $100 per door, inside and out. He quoted me $400 for the 4 door handles
that's pretty cheap in my opinion for custom crafted parts. I understand wanting to be paid well for custom work, but for an $800 car, it's really hard to justify $200 worth of handles. The goal for me was to save money with it...
If we can get the price down a little, count me in.

Let's see.... $200 for a whole 2 door set that you would never have to tear apart your door every 2 to 3 yrs. ever? Hmmmm... count me in! Also have door handles that just a few Metro's have? Hmmmmm... count me in again! I'm ready! Otey
My driver's door has a metal rod sticking out of it that PA Metro Frame Fixer invented, and when you push on the rod, the door opens (instead of lifting the handle)... Been like that for years; I'll see how much more use I can get out of it. I just baby the passenger door.
TeeHee.....Kyle....hell if it works! I just wish I could get a key that won't break Hmm, I still have one of the original Geo keys, and it works fine. Do you lubricate the locks?

but for an $800 car, it's really hard to justify $200 worth of handles. $800.00? Try Free and $300.00 car.

Been a while since I estimated a parts run in my tool and die shop so I am really just guessing here.
After looking at the part I would guess that the prototyping would involve scrapping a couple parts to begin with. Ignoring the cost of materials that would probably take at least 4 hours, including original design.
Another hour to machine the first good part, then another hour in hand work, plus shipping.
In 1985 prices (when I closed my tool and die shop) at $60 per hour the cost would be about $240 before the first part is completed.
The part would be an hour of machine time + and hours of hand work+shipping totaling $120 per part --- at 1985 prices.
at $100 per part in 2016 prices, the guy is giving them away. Not his fault that people are wanting to put them on 20+ year old pieces of shit.

I'm in for a ship set if they will fit on my 1990 XFI 2 door. I understand that's both inside and outside handles for both doors (4 handles total) for the cost of $200.00.

If we can get the price down a little, count me in. my cars may have not cost a lot in money, but they are my pride and joys, I love my cars, I love buying them things, I just am obsessed with cars. money is not a huge deal for me when it comes to things I want, I work very hard and if I want a $8 dirty sock tasting starbucks coffee ill buy one, if I want a $1500 twin scroll turbo for my blue car ooooohhh yea ima buy it, and ima get all the bells and whistles with it. When T3 says to me he has a 1 off part or some random thing he thinks I might like I am all over it with little thought of the cost.
so you may ask when all this pays off, it pays off every time I turn the key and my car roars to life, it pays off when I am burning down the highway and every thing is just buzzing along in perfect harmony. It pays off when you can say your car has more unicorn farts on it than 1 unicorn can fart in a lifetime. When some one who bought parts that are mass produced, then looks at your washed and waxed turd and says "what kinda car is that?" that's the best moment gotta keep my turds polished

Personally, I am cheap as dirt, and far too poor to think about throwing what little money I have around. You've seen my wreck of a house now, and that's what eats up the spare cash. The whole point of the Metro is to save me money; so I think I'll keep my weird metal rod sticking out of the driver's door handle. Good theft protection... they can't figure out how to open the door!

Yep, but my keys are really thin at the end. Go to a hardware store hand them the key and ask them to make you a duplicate in a gm key the B65 blank a little tougher than the suzuki blank. Works great haven't broke one since...work at ace been cutting keys since i was 8 years old

Two outside handles for the 2 door 1989-1994 is the set he should pursue, and I'd pay good money for them.

I would absolutely be interested in a set of inside outside handles for a 94 metro. 2 sets in fact for both my mice.
including the trim if possible Ie ALL metal would be amazing.

I will see about a minimum order size to make this happen. Otherwise he suggests the 3D printed method for quality metal parts.
