I can't remember how the outside handle is made, I know the part that breaks isn't the actual handle though. Is there a way to just make the part that breaks? |

The part that breaks is part of the handle but could probably be made better so that it doesn't break. Like a metal insert in the critical part. Conor |

I've have seen a few outside handles broken. It's true properly maintained doors hinges, latch adjustment, etc. is the best approach. And I thought where they break was a little light in the engineering strength area. I've been luck enough to find a few replacements at the P & Pull so I have not had to epoxy the broken ones yet. Not to jack your thread but does anyone have an opinion on how the inside and outside ones online rate? I need a inside handle for my 93 soon. I could be really interested in an outside handle and housing made of brushed metal though. That would look sweet. Inside to match would be really nice. They are doing some really nice work with 3-D Metal Printers these days. |

Looking at prices for new ones of eBay for my car inside and out. It would cost me about 40 bucks to replace them all. PnP price is the same around here around 10 bucks per handle. I have ever only bought inside handles and at the time they cost me 30. I would imagine those that break them yearly could see how many at the proposed price would have to buy to justify the cost. I am aware of budgets and it is a steep price. But 200 for a set for my car I am going to try because over time as the parts for these cars become harder to find costs will rise. |

It would be esier to take the handle apart and forge both pieces. Imho |

Yes, it has been suggested that this project go to a 3D metal printer instead of CNC. I figure that metal melted together with a laser is also going to be pretty strong. The upfront cost on this would be $6000 for the printer. The incremental costs would actually be quite a bit less than the machining option. Either way, I will see what a minimum number for the CNC option would be before throwing it out as a possibility. Conor |

OK, I talked to the guy again. Unfortunately I misunderstood him the first time around. He meant that it would be $400 per set of door handles PER DOOR. So for a 2 door it would be $800! Anyway, that 3D printer for $6000 seems like the better option. He also made mention of casting the less critical parts and machining the important ones with the stresses. Either way if we ere to go that far, I think the 3D metal printer is the way to go. The upfront cost is $6000 and the incremental cost per part is not more than a few dollars. Conor |

I'd be interested in metal outer '95 handles if it was under 50 or so, but that's a different generation metro
