I paid a Russian guy at a flee market $100 to do my Civic. I wish I had done 35% in the front and 20% in the back (legal limit here). I've been pulled over and fined twice for tint. Pain in the butt.

If I were to do it again, I'd do the legal limit and have it professionally done. Just black, no tint or reflective properties.

I am the one on the left.

in my state reflective tint is not legal- so you might want to check on your state laws.

I don't know if they still do it, but if done by a professional and everything was legal they would put a little sticker in the corner of the window. It would have the percent, and who did it so the police could see it and leave you alone.

Oh ZXT, I Beg To Differ, Respectfully On That. At Around May In 2011, While On My Way To Elkhart IN From Encino, To Start Work At My Now Ex-Job, I Was On I-40 And Just Passing By Winslow, Joseph City, Holbrook, And I Was ACCOSTED By NAVAJO COUNTY SHERRIFFS DEPARTMENT And Was PULLED OVER! 3 Chevy Tahoe SUVs In The Middle At Around MM 283 Just Before Holbrook, And I Was Eastbound And Doing All Of 55 MPH On I-40 (75 MPH Speed Limit For Everybody) And They Just HAD TO SINGLE OUT THE LITTLE GUY!!! 😠 YEP, THE GEO METRO!! The Cop Gives Me A FIX IT TICKET And Says To Me That "Tinted Windows Are Illegal Here In This State (Arizona) And Even If You're From Another State And Just Passing Through!" He Wrote Me Up A Fix It Ticket And Told Me To Remove Them From MY Car To Suit THEIR NEEDS! And I'm From CALIFORNIA Where Tint Is WAY ILLEGAL Too.

I Just Don't Understand That! Why In Hell Do I Have To Take Off MY Shit To Please Another State Or Jurisdiction Where I Don't Live There? WTF???

Or Is It A GEO METRO Thing With Cops?

Boy, They Got Some Serious GROWING UP To Do! :banghead

I know legal is 35% on front windows and any percent on back windows.
You're right about the front windows, but 35% is also the legal limit on rear windows in Tennessee. Many states allow whatever for the rear windows, but not Tennessee.

Keep in mind that "35%" means that the tint and window combined must allow at least 35% of the light through. All glass, even un-tinted, blocks some light. If you apply film that blocks 35%, the window glass itself will bring it down closer to 30%. If they choose to pull you over and test it with their light meter... ticket for you. :deal

Actually, California's law is much stricter than Arizona's. Neither state cares what you do to the rear windows, but up to 33% is allowed on the front in Arizona, while California only allows a meager 70%. Anything illegal here is way illegal in California.

A few states (Vermont, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Alaska) don't allow any tint at all on the front windows. At least you don't live there. ;)

I have changed my dealer and going to someone who does LLUMAR tint which compares with 3m... I am also going to do the whole windshield instead of a strip, can't decide if I want to go darker than 50% on the windshield or not, I know I do want to do 15% on the sides and back windows or that is what is getting put on. it will be done on Monday now... $140 for Windows and $100 for windshield, I am going to try to get it all done for 220 by talking to the owner. looking forward to it.

If I was a cop and saw this, I would be looking for something to write you up for too. They could not get you for speeding, but they were able to find something else to punish you for doing 20 under.

California plates? It wouldn't matter if you were( or are?) a staunch conservative/christian/ gun owner. There is a lot of hatred and resentment towards California. The plates can be enough to get hassled...or worse. Drove up to Washington before christmass and had no problems.

That's a good brand of tint, that's what we used in the early 90s. See that all laws are out the window now , if I were doing the complete windshield I woud go a light as I could get. Kind of putting a big X on your car with doing the whole windshield. Might end up with a $220 tint job and a $220 fine.

jack of all trades, master of two

I get 2.5 % on the rears, a small strip on the top windshield. last time I had the top and bottom of the windshield tinted the cop that pulled me over for speeding shit bricks over the tint on the front glass; he pulled me over for speeding, but saw the tint and freaked out. kinda weird, as I had forgot my wallet at home (no license or i.d. on me, and my papers were expired- I had new ones at home) gave me a ticket for speeding AND a warning ticket for the tint. then proceeded to lecture me about the dangers of window tint, both to the public and the police......
removed the lower tint, (had to appear at a police station so they could see it was removed) and that was that.
at least he didn't notice the front windows had MINIMAL tinting on them.....

I've always wanted to tint my front windshield with something to keep the UV rays from eating my dash/etc.
