I did buy a few tickets with my GF although my mathematical mind understands the odds are very much against you winning. One of the tickets won $4 so will be cashed in for two more tickets for this next 1.3 billion drawing. Some of the articles about the winners are interesting. Some blow it all and are worse off in 5 years while others do OK and invest it and live well for the rest of their lives. The one interesting thing I hear about any big winners is that everyone comes out wanting a free handout. One guy says the crazies literally come out of the woodwork from all over. Some are old friends or relatives they haven't seen for years while many are just complete strangers that call or approach them. I see this all too often just being in business for myself and can't imagine if I won a big lottery drawing like this. Anyone here ever won more than a few dollars with lottery? I have never won more than just a few dollars but also don't play the lottery all that much. I am not much of a gambler in general although I know of people who swear there are ways to improve your odds in "games of chance" like slot machines. One way to increase your odds in the lottery is to let the computer pick. Humans typically have a bias that eliminates certain ranges of numbers. Conor |

Ex neighbor won twice. 1/2 million first time, 1.5 million next time. He didn't change at all, but his wife decided "she" wanted a bigger, better place. Like I said, he's an ex neighbor now. It's nice to actually know someone, that won something. |

I won 600.00 on scratch offs but never on any thing else. My father inlaw won $50,000.00 after taxes about 5 years ago. He did not change a thing just invested it in 2 Ira's for my 2 kids. They can not get it till they are 25 yrs old. Then the understanding is for them to use it as a down payment to buy a home. I will buy a few tickets for the next one for sure!

If I won, I would be shipping my metro down to EVMETRO for a month or two. Then I would start attending all these "meets" that I hear about from you lower 48 guys...... |

I'm not one to buy them, but I'm heading up to TN in a few minutes to buy a couple for friends/family. I'll throw my numbers in the ring too.. If I won I'd give the members of this forum that I liked a nice ass chunk of money to be spent on their metros... and nothing else. |

If any of us won, evmetro would be set for life with work and money. My gosh, what would you do with a billion dollars?

If I won, I would build a pretty fancy EVmetro shop to restore and modify Metros. Lots of storage for Metros that still need to be saved, and lots of lifts for Metros in progress. With a jackpot that big, I could probably relocate, train and employ a lot of the Metro community to save metros. Might even raffle off a couple unrealistic insane metro builds here on the forum... |

I would have your car repainted for you, but i would make sure I matched the color of paint to what it is right now. You'd have a brand new pink metro. |

Yes, my GF and I were talking about this too. I would fix up or pay to have both my Metros fixed up. I would buy the 'vert up the road from me as it is rust free and runs decent. All the issues with it are cosmetic. My GF used to have a Festiva and would want to get another one of those and have it fixed up real nice. Then we could just take care of everything else that needs to be paid off and then save most of it. Neither of us are flashy people but we wouldn't have to worry about paying for anything we need. The clerk where I turned in my $4 winning ticket for two more tickets was so sick of lottery tickets. I guess they have been SWAMPED! Conor |

Not true! No offense but, you know absolutely nothing about statistics and the laws of probability. The sole reason that approx. 70% of all lottery jackpots are won by computer generated numbers and not people picking their own set of numbers, is simply because 70% of all lottery tickets sold are computer generated and not individually chosen. Most people are lazy, they don't have the time/will to fill out a card to be fed into a machine; they go into a Quick Mart, and buy "quick-picks". Fact. As a human beings, ones that use a base ten numbering system, we have a certain ingrained bias toward the thinking that the string of numbers that was just drawn last evening, 16,19,32,34,57, 13, has more "randomness", and is thus more likely to be drawn from a large vat of numbered ping pong balls, than does a string of numbers in consecutive numerical order, like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. The fact is, both sets of numbers have exactly the same odd of being drawn: 1 in 292,201,338.00. No more, no less. As for playing the lottery, yes, my GF and I have been playing the same 2 sets of numbers, every draw, for the past 12 yrs. And we ain't won . While all sets of number have exactly the same odds of being drawn, the way I see it, though it could take thousands of years for our set of numbers to come up, statistically speaking, our odds get a tiny-tiny bit better, with each successive draw.

Just think, you could establish your own Foundation! PETG. And set up "no kill" shelters around the country, for unwanted Metros that are about to be scrapped. |

Well I understand statistics perfectly well. I know that picking the same number such as 1-1-1-1-1 and 1 has the same odds as any other number. The deal with the bias is that many people pick dates which limits the number to basically 31. So you use your birthday and half the numbers are not even in consideration since the top number is 69. If you buy MULTIPLE tickets, then the quick pick becomes even more of an advantage. Each different combination is another 1/292million chance of winning. Conor |
