What models are compatible with a 1993?

I have a 1993 Metro, currently it needs some repair work and may need a new part. Also, I would like to put a tachometer in my Geo. There are a few later model Geo's at my local Pick n Pull, but I'm not sure if I can use parts from them. Does anyone know which years are compatible with the 1993?

Depends on what your looking for. The 95 and up are a newer (North America only) body style, so no body panels will fit a 93. The 89-94 have similar body's so many parts will swap between them...but the dash and instrument cluster of the 93 is not the same as the 89-92 (I think) with the square dash. I seem to recall the 92 and up instrument clusters are able to be swapped but another member will need to confirm, and I think there are some minor differences between years, again not positive. Hope this helps.

Also might want to mention what the problem is or part you need as it will help other chime in.

O and welcome fellow washtonion, lots of us here...

Somewhere here on the forum is a slightly technical thread called, " 4-cylinder tach, making it work", or some such. It might help expand the possibilities a little.

A 92-94 3 cyl tach cluster out of a convertible or a lsi that had a tach is a direct interchange. Other parts vary on if they will interchange between mkII and mkIII

Same instrument cluster in the MK3/95+. That's one of few items that remained the same.

Other than the tachometer I'm not exactly sure what part I'm going to need. Right now my Geo is having problems with acceleration. The other day on the freeway it kept losing acceleration, and it got to the point where it wouldn't go above 45. So I pulled off the freeway and immediately afterwards my car wouldn't go above 25. Then it started dying every time I stopped (I ended up having it towed). I did a small test drive the other day, and it was lurching really bad on acceleration and I had to keep the clutch partially in to keep the car going.

take it to Auto Zone and get a compression test done and post the results here.

:gp Yep, you need a compression test to see if you have developed a burnt valve which is a weak point on these engines.

Glow Shift sells a good tach that will work on our 3 cly engines for like $45 + shipping.

I have a friend who is a certified mechanic coming over to look at it on Wednesday, I'll post the results afterwards.

Since when does Auto Zone do compression tests? Free: windshield wiper and battery installs; OBDII scannning; battery and alternator testing, sure, but compression tests?
