under the hood, beside front motor mount- lots of steel there.
If you put it under the hood and lock the car, how do you unlock the car to pull the hood release to get under the hood?

Lay on the ground and move yourself under the hood, and reach up to the key. :hmm , our metro's have like 8 inch's of ground clearance.

I've locked myself out many times. Plan to modify my power door lock controller to receive a pulse from the always hot power cable by pressing a hidden micro-switch. The default is for solenoids to unlock when power is interrupted then re-enabled.

The default unlock is less secure than default lock, so I may also add a hidden swap polarity switch somewhere

My 98 Chevy pickup has power locks and it's locked me out twice just closing the door with the keys in it. No clue why it did it. I know for certain that I didn't lock it prior to getting out. It's like closing the door activated the lock switch. I now keep a key in my wallet and never leave the keys in any car unless I roll down the window enough to get my arm inside.

I put a spare key in my wallet.
This.

Heck yeah, I've done it! :lol My Metrro had those goofy automatic locks that were supposed to lock at 10 mph or so. Well, mine would sometimes lock for no reason at all! :die

I unplugged them and keep a key in my wallet now... ;)

Heck, I Remember Doing This Very Thing In My Geo In Winnemucca And While The Car Was Running Too And My Heater Was On Full Blast. Anyone Who Knows Winnemucca NV Knows It Gets Cold Here Too In The Wintertime Too. I Had To Pry Out The Small Stationary Window Pane In My Left Back Door To Reach In And Unlock My Back Door! Klutz!!!

I Remember Doing This Also In Other Vehicles Too, Mostly Trucks. I Did This At The Flying J In Blacksburg SC In My Butler Kenworth W-900 Widenose Conventional, And In My Class C RV That I Was Transporting In Little America WY, And Another Frito Lay Box Truck At The TA In Santa Rosa NM. Both Those Were Ford E Series Cab Trucks.

I know some one that put a remote rear hatch release under car. He reaches under rear of car and pops rear hatch and climbs thru.

I don't bother to lock the Metro. They sell for about $500 around here, so nobody will steal it. It's like having a Kia.

I had a 99 Toyota Corolla.

The inside door handles were busted so I had to roll down the window and reach out to open the doors..........
The battery terminal had a weak connection that often would cause the car to go dead when turning the ignition............this required a jiggle of the cables to fix the connection.........

For some reason the power door locks would lock for no reason at all.........

Your sitting in the car, suddenly the doors all lock, you must room down the power windows to open the doors from the outside, you turn the key.....and the cars electrical goes dead!
......
Do you know how dumb you feel when your tapping on the glass trying to get some ones help.....and you have to explain how you locked yourself inside your car??????

Good idea; Kyle told me the same thing. Just disable the stupid automatic locks! Mine sometimes lock at roughly 10 MPH. Sometimes they wait to lock 10 minutes down the road going 40 MPH...? :lol Luckily, they have never locked randomly while sitting still for me.

Mt I have that same push to open door fix as you and it's irritating, I keep a key in my wallet, for a while I kept a key on a necklace <called it my bling> but it poked me in the eye once..so ..I have a hide a key and no metro keys fit in it.. until I bought one from malwart.. then I could not find any metal to stick it to.. when I did I guess the bumps around here knocked it loose cause it is not where I left it LOL..taking the autolock and disabling it sounds like the best option really..
I never have anything of value in my metro other than a handful of tools in an ordinary looking bag under a pile of clothes.
My car almost always appears to have a homeless person living in it.. plus it's a geo LOL and it doesn't look fast or nice so I am golden on the theft thing. I doubt anyone wants to dig under the grungy undies I found at the pick n pull..HAHA
but yeah I think I will disable my locks too because I cannot roll down my window on the car with the busted and fixed door lock
and it is a hassel to dig the spares out of where I never have them when I need them..
