So I have a fun dilemma. I have a pair of skechers "waterproof" boots, bought them for $70 and they advertised waterproof everywhere. There a a damn metal tag on the boot that says waterproof.... Well when winter and slush hit... They are definitely not waterproof. It was well outside return policy and skechers Corp said to try and take back to the store... No help... Then this past summer I found a pair of Coleman work boots on sale for $30. I've worn them for a week now and the bottom sol on right shoe separated at the rear!!! I need some advice for a average size boot that I can romp through slush and snow and won't break. I looked at red wings and when somparing a couple pairs... $195 and $198 the one pair a customer said the sole broke off in a month!!! Holy crap!!! Who actually makes decent boots? Here's pics of the destruction ![]() ![]() |

i love my work boots, best i ever had. i think i paid 180 for them. waterproof, electrical hazzard rated anti slip and the toes are that composite plastic that will let go of your toes in an accident. the toes are like steel toe but the plastic instead, supposed to be safer than steel. when these boots take a crap if they ever do i WILL buy another set great boots here i dont see the pair i bought but i love these shoes. wear them every day, rain, mud, driving, working, to the store, everyday comfort Edited by ZXTjato, Jan 13 2016, 09:56 AM.

Boot prices have gone up (just like everything else) and you are going to get what you pay for, that said I have had good results with Danner boots over many years: http://www.danner.com/product/work/?gclid=CIyv2p6Xp8oCFUUTHwodqssEhw If you are planning on keeping them for a long time then I would look for boots with the stitched down sole as they can be resoled (either locally or you can ship them to Danner) https://www.danner.com/customer-service/boot-recrafting/ Good Luck on your quest! |

I have owned some red wings and was not impressed. I had 2 pairs that broke on me within the first couple months and that is unacceptable to me for the price. I am using keen steel toes at work and I am impressed with them very comfortable and durable. You could also try timberline or wolverine but they will cost 100+ same with keen's. Worth the money but red wings for 200 are not unless you don't mind bringing them in to get fixed when they break. |

for the Danners I wear my Pronghorn 8 inch 6 days a week. For me, nothing compares to date. These are my hunting, hiking, biking, snowshoe, wood cutting, lawn mowing, and work boots. Been buying Danners for well over 10 years now. When it comes to water proof, Gortex is the only way to go. If it doesn't say Gortex, it is not. Don't let some sales guys tell you that it's just a name, and theirs is the same. Those will be like a plastic bag built into the boot. Bad news for your feet. I get a fresh pair every fall. Just under $200.00 My feet are worth it. Buy cheap boots and your feet pay.

We have a local Army/Navy store in town that has been here for 40+ years run by an older couple (poor folks have been trying to sell it for years). Don't know how long they will be around, but I bought a pair of leather Carolina branded work boots from them. It was one of the most expensive ones in the store, still at only around $120! The funny thing is that their antique cash register only goes up to $99, so he had to ring us up twice... Two years later, and I still have them. I wore them constantly the first year for my job, and I wore them this past winter. It's time to get them out of the closet now. Still in great shape, ready to go! |

So went to the store... no receipt but had box and tag off of boots and the manager said they got a bad batch which several were torn same way IN THE BOX. I snagged a new pair and pulled hard on the base to verify. time will tell. |

Get some military-issue combat boots. Cheap, water resistant, comfortable, durable. It's all I wear to work. |
