Bought a Chrysler Crossfire CHEAP

So I picked up a Chrysler Crossfire convertible cheap $2700.00 from a friend who owns a used car lot. It runs good but as usual it has some issues. So I joined the Crossfire forum. Let me tell you they seem useless compared to this forum. It must be a bunch of real old people they are just useless to me. I posed a few problems and didn't get any concrete answers or help. What a waste of my time. I figured out 2 problems myself. I will always have my Metro but it is nice to drive a better car at times. The Crossfire is just a Mercedes SLK with a different body on it so it drives nice and has lots of power. So I just want to say Thanks to all of you for the help you have given me over the years for my Metro. This is a great forum and I am glad to be a part of it.

Go to the SLK forum, Mercedes people are usually pretty helpful. The engine was used in many models so there should be a lot more people with the right info you need.

Crossfires are cool...except for that Chrysler badge! Good luck with it. For some reason, back in the day, I saw one of them driving down the road here in town well before they were actually released.

Pretty damned good looking car, if you ask me.

Just goes to show hot the Chrysler badge is just a lousy car company. When the Crossfire came out I'm sure it was around $40-50K and now you can pick one up dirt cheap. Guess if you want to retain the value of a vehicle one needs to purchase a Geo Metro. I bought mine used 14 years ago for $1500 with around 60K on the clock. 200,000 miles later I can off load it for $1500.

Glad you got a good deal on the Crossfire. Goes to show that if you are patient good things come your way.

Its great to be on a forum with the "ignore" button. Just activate that button and you never have to put up with someone who does not deserve using the 75+ years of experience accumulated by some of our members.

i used to own one. personally, i think they look a shit ton better than the Mercedes counterpart. after all, its just a mercedes in chrysler clothing. way better clothing IMO.

Nice! I am sure this will be a fun car to drive. Yes, the Chrysler emblem is likely why it dropped in value so quick. Luckily it is only a Chrysler in appearance and you were able to exploit this to your advantage. I have seen a comment on here before along the lines of "It is pretty bad when a forum of people dedicated to the Geo Metro bashes on another car brand!" I will say it is well deserved.

You will probably have to run the European spec oil to meet the requirements of the manufacturer since this is really a Mercedes and not a Chrysler. Be prepared for a few differences between this and American & Japanese cars.

or the dreaded .7 valvetrain issues XD

Theres an 06 liberty down the road, clean lowish miles for 1600, but its got 2 negatives, 3.7 v6 and the auto.... Both destined to fail

There is a mechanic in town and he says that any Chrysler engine that ends in 7 (with the exception of the 5.7) is generally a problem engine. I have to say that the 2.7 is probably the worst. These things seem to make a habit of shelling out rods within the first 100k. They also leave nice clouds of blue smoke behind them.
