I was curious if some one has swapped in a saturn 2.0l engine into a metro. I have been shopping around for a saturn ion redline for a while and saw one that was wrecked a while ago. I know a guy who does tubular front ends. I just want to know if some one has done it and had a solid reliable car.

Ive seen a 3.8l grand national motor jammed in there and converted to rear wheel drive. Never a Saturn though

The 2.0l supercharged engine would be way lighter and possibly, substantialy, way easier to install and setup to run legal.

You would go way beyond engine for this kind of swap... transmission, axles, knuckles, wheels, brakes, exhaust, accessories, computer, radiator, struts, etc, would all have to come over as well.

Our friend DrDomer put a BMW V6 (I think) into his Lemons racer. It was quite the project. Its very fast. But was having problems with brakes last time they updated their thread.

Why would one want to? Why mess up a good thing? Guess I'm just a Metro purist.

People used to jam Taurus SHO motors into Festivas. Called them "Shoguns".

Anything is possible if you are okay with spending $10k to be the only guy in the world who has a Geo Metro...with a Saturn motor in it.

In the name of excess, why even di-- around with pathetic little car engines and just remove the hatch and install a straight turbojet in the back - surplus GE J85s are readily available and will get you around 3,000 pounds of thrust, then you can turn the entire engine bay a fuel tank. At only a bit over 1 gal/min at takeoff power you should be able to carry more than enough fuel to get a Metro to fly. Literally. At least until minor inconveniences like controllability, stability, and gravity tend to spoil the fun. Since you will likely only use the engine for well under a minute in your entire remaining lifetime, you should be able to get a timed out engine for not much more than scrap value these days.

If that isn't enough excess for you, you can also increase your thrust by roughly another 50% by installing an afterburner. If you live long enough to get the car in traffic, using a burner judiciously would allow you to easily melt the tires of tailgaters on fire, or if you're in a bad mood that day just burn the entire car all at once. Of course there's a good chance that 4,500 lbs of thrust on a 2,000 lb car will also cause you to tailgate anything in front of you, so maybe the afterburner isn't such a good idea and you should stick to just the basic jet engine without it. :hmm

Its an interesting thought, I'm sure yours would be the first documented case though!

I say interesting because I happen to have a 1999 saturn SC1 in my yard with the 1.9 SOHC. That car has a good 650 pounds heavier than my sprint, and still that saturn was rated 40 on the highway. Makes me think if you could graft that motor into a sprint you could get OEM mileage but have double the stock HP :hmm

For me, its just a dream. I would never tackle something like that. But its fun to think about ^o)
