I was going to put a saturn ion redline engine and trans in a vert. I am looking at a vert with a trashed motor and I found a wrecked running and driving ion redline. Makes sense to me. |

I know that there are several pretty easy swaps for putting Mazda/Ford motors in the old Festivas. I know of a few guys who are enthusiasts of them too. I guess the bolt up to the bell housing works just the same for many of the smaller V6 engines. Does anyone have any pretty simple upgrades like this for the Metro? Engines that are similar enough to just drop right in. Conor |

Mazda/Ford into Festivas? Well Yeah! Ford product into a Ford product. What is easy to swap into a Metro?? Well I would suppose that anything in the same "family of Suzukis" Swift, Firefly, etc etc----But then we all have heard of that............. |

Yeah, the Festiva was a Mazda branded as a Ford much like the Metro is branded as a GM but really a Suzuki underneath. I know that the G10 and G13 engines will swap between all of them with different harnesses, mounts, ECM, and the like but was curious if there were any other engines that would drop right in. I wouldn't do this but am just curious. Conor |

One of these days, I'm totally going to mount a 1.9 TDI engine in the ass end of one of these cars, convert the front end to a frunk. If a Jetta gets 50MPG, put it in a chassis with half the weight far better aero.

Junk everything inside the Metro engine bay, keep the knuckles and axles. Swap the new motor in, weld in some solid mounts. It's going to vibrate. Add all the wiring from the other car to run the engine, probably have to swap the entire under dash harness if it is EFI since wires go all over the place and you'll need it to troubleshoot. You'll have to get custom axles fabbed/welded together to mate the trans to the knuckles. You'll probably have to source some beefier springs for up front too. After that, sure, you've got it pretty well together. Motor swaps are easier if everything is mechanical. The more mechanical features, the better. You'll probably have to forget the idea of power steering, AC, and heat unless you get fancy. |
