Hey guys I'm going to hopefully go look at and buy my next metro tomorrow afternoon. It's a 96 2 door 5 speed with solid frame horns. It's the 3cyl motor. Anything specific I should look for besides rust in other places like the wheel wells, floor, radiator support etc? I know general mechanics like oil etc but wondered if any specific 95 and up problems for the 2 doors that are severe.

Dash will probably be sun-faded, headliner fabric might be drooping...but that's normal and not due to the owner's lack of attention.

Look for rust on the rocker panels, and in the rear wheel well arches under the back seat and at the rear sway bar bushings, as well as the fame horns.

Test drive for drivabilitity issues...make sure you don't have to struggle or crunch your way in to 1st and 2nd gear in particular.

Like Stubby said, the dash cancer in the 95' - 97' models. That one will be obvious with a really nasty looking dash board. Nothing else I can think of other than the basic mechanical functions and, of course, rust, as mentioned.

Shame you're not just a little closer in western PA, or I'd go with you!

Edit: Just take heed to the buyer's guide so you don't forget the obvious.

I bought it. Thing is near perfect imo. A little rust and I'll take care of that.

I always look inside the breather/PCV hose to see if it is nasty. I also look under the air cleaner to see if there is any oil residue from excessive blowby.
