I checked the SM for a 1999 "remove the EFE heater (1) and the gasket from the intake manifold" |

Be careful handling the EFE part. Damage to its mating surfaces can result in a short to the manifold, which will then trigger a Check Engine code. |

The gasket goes on the intake manifold if I am reading that right. |

well when I took it apart the order I found the pieces was tb, gasket, EFE, intake.. Edit hmm.. is there a link for that SM? Edit: what section of the manual did you find that in? Edit LMAO I found it in the Emissions section.. and it says gasket, EFE Heater, gasket, and then TB...so I need another gasket, Edited by metro1.0, Jan 15 2016, 07:43 PM.

If that order is the way the factory did it then go with it. If it looks like someone has been through the car before I would wait for members to weigh in on it. |

Thanks guys Edit: I wish there was an exploded view in the manual.. The gasket I bought is felpro and looks like the <paper> one I took off the TB-EFE section, but on the section referring to the EFE-Intake area there looks to be a metal gasket with a copper tube connected to it, with some mating material in between the pieces. While I had this apart I decided to remove and clean the EGR ports, that happened, but when I went to remove the old gasket from the intake it was almost welded.. I scraped thin layer by thin layer with a sharp knife for over an hour to get it back to clean metal.... My point being .. if I try to remove what looks to be a thin gasket on the underside of the EFE I might break or marr the surface..it seems pretty well sealed but I'd hate to put a gasket on a gasket.. Thoughts on that? Edited by metro1.0, Jan 15 2016, 07:55 PM.

Can you heat it up with a heat gun to get the gasket loose, or something of the sort? Not sure how delicate it is. |

The GMPartsEast.com link in post #2 is to the parts manual and you can click on "enlarge image" for an even bigger picture. |

I had to change my EFE when I bought my 2000 metro 1.0. I kept the part and just found it. I must have given up on scraping off the lower paper EFE to manifold gasket. A chunk of it is still baked on. It seems identical to the upper gasket from EFE to TBI . See page 6-668 of the FSM. Engine controls. I see that the post 2 diagram shows different part numbers and a few extra holes on the lower gasket. I will look again later to see if the holes are are present on my lower gasket and if they actually appear to have any function. Maybe myredvert can advise whether the 2 different factory gaskets would interchange with a single third party gasket part. The upper and lower surfaces of the EFE surfaces seem to be the same so far. I'll need to scrape off the rest of the gasket to verify. Edited by suzukitom, Jan 16 2016, 02:25 AM.

That I can't answer - if anyone has already been through this issue and answered your question or what you're doing to check possible compatibility would be more helpful.

Sorry Myredvert I missed that link , yes the top is different from the lower I can find the lower in a head gasket kit from rock auto but have yet to find the lower gasket sold separately by itself.. I did however find the GM part # from the link you provided in post #2 Thanks going to call Orielly's because I saw in a thread somewhere that they carry them.. Edit: ROFL post #5 Thanks Clarkdw http://geometroforum.com/topic/4864179/1/ Edited by metro1.0, Jan 16 2016, 09:34 PM.

There are two different gaskets, Fel-Pro makes paper knock offs of both. The factory gaskets were rubber coated steel. You require both the upper and lower, if you don't jacket that stupid thing, IT will leak. The two gaskets are different as for lining up the breather hole that runs the FPR. RockAuto lists the FelPro's under the 95 and up G10s. |
