It's 47 degrees warmer inside my refrigerator than it is out side. :lol

We keep our house around 65 degrees, so that only makes a 77 degree difference from outside. :bananaburn

But it smells so fresh, and clean, after -10 degrees. :thumb Please be polite, to our little cars, and let them idle 5 minutes before taking off. :cheers

Yeah, I'm With SNOWFISH On That! People, Never Ever Just Start Up And Just Take Off Full Throttle With The Engine And Trans Stone Cold! Not If You Care For Your Car! I Always Warm Up My Car When Starting It Stone Cold! I Dont Care If Its A Geo Metro, Or A V8 Luxury Car Or Whatever, Warm The Damn Thing Before Just Taking Off! Whatever It Is That Youre Going To Can Wait. It'll Still Be There When You Get There! Not Warming Your Engine Up When Cold Is Just Plain Stupidity On Your Part As Far As I'm Concerned! SNOWFISH Hit It Right Spot On With That One, Thank You, Man!

Back To The Subject At Hand......

May have been a math problem. :hmm Add instead of subtract. :smackface
+10 degrees, at Wasilla Airport, makes a 60-65 degree difference. :news
Heck, that's sweatshirt weather. :thumb Should I wear my gloves today or not? :hmm :lol

We've warmed up to -9 degrees now. So +65 degrees, my house inside, minus -9 is a 74 degree difference.
I brought my gloves in case I need them. :cheers

When I posted it was 0 degrees at my house and 92 inside my house.

Now it's 80 degrees inside and 23 outside.....not as big of a swing.

Wasilla airport may physically be close....but weather wise it's far off. During winter my house is normally 10-15 colder than in town. Summer time I'm usually warmer.

I only posted the 92 temp difference for some of the lower 48 members who never hear of these things.

If I wanted to I could get 135 to 145 temperature difference on a good cold day.....-35 out side and 100-110 inside.

I know people in fairbanks who have seen -60 outside and 110 inside........that's only possible when you have a small well insulated place and a big wood stove.

Not so fast

I get a 30 degree difference in the other direction in the summer, and I keep the thermostat at 84 then. But today... windows open. :P

How in the world do you stand being in a room that hot???? I can hardly breathe when its that hot. I like 65-68 and wear a light hoodie. A friend lives in Europe and he says everybody over there sets theirs at 62-65 and they wear sweaters or hoodies too. I thinks it's more of an energy/money saving thing over there.

65 is a bit too cold for me but it's what I set my heat on in the winter. anything over 75 is absurd in the winter. I'd be making ball soup 24/7.

My wood stove was fully shut down but it had found some magical piece of wood and was blazing hot!
Other times it's running fully open and not putting out much heat....wood/wood stoves are weird like this......
I shoot for 68...once I reach that temperature, if the wood stove is ready to be shut down.......and the up stairs is above 63....then I close the damper and flue.

Currently I'm using a big wood furnace. Wood stove fire box depth is my finger tips to my shoulder blade....it's big! I usually have a fire in the back, and stack wood on end in the front of the fire box....so the stacked wood gets the oven baking effect to dry it out and bring wood up to temperature. Every 12 hours I push the log over onto the pile and stand a new piece up in its place.
If it's warm out I may do this every 24+ hours. If really cold out I'll crank the damper and flue open and push the log over every 8 hours.

The wood furnace is wrapped in sheet metal with a 850cfm blower feeding air through it.

It's rated for 3000 sf. People testify they handle 5000 sf easly.
My house is 1000 sf buts it's very poorly built and needs more heat to stay warm
