failing to pretreat the roads with brine, beet juice, or salt is an epic fail for the dc road crews! ![]() when i woke up this morning the roads were wet and then it never snowed as much as a flake. |

Here in North central NC we got maybe 3 inches of snow fri morning. Followed by a good coating of sleet, and a other dusting of snow this morning. Secondary roads have not been touched as of this afternoon and are a sheet of ice and packed snow.

we got about 1.5 to 2 ft already with another 8 inches expected tonight. the electric car stayed home and I took the minivan. while the leaf is amazing in the snow heat was mandatory today even the vans "furnace" heater struggles to keep the windows clear so my range would have been under 40 miles. I was tempted to switch to the metro for delivery after getting the quest stuck (my mistake misjudged a road after the critter lied about it being well plowed. (the metro gets stuck easy but also gets unstuck easy especially solo) but we decided to close up at 5pm. what you folks out west don't seem to understand is that you are EQUIPPED to handle snow. you drive ON the snow you use sand it does not melt and ice as much and one more thing. CHAINS are illegal here. oddly enough around here more snow equals easier driving. Most of the dimwits are smart enough to realize they can't handle the driving conditions or their car is not up to the task or more likely they simply can't get their cars OUT to drive. Parked the Metro and got the Samurai out. If nothing breaks, I'll drive it until spring. Keeps the road salt from eating the Metro. We had about 8" of snow, then the sleet and freezing rain packed it down to about 6". Driving home at 1:30 am was a pain. The first few miles were plowed, so no problem. The rest was a rutted mess. The Samurai will plow through eight or ten inches of snow with no problem, but ruts are really bad. It's too narrow to use truck ruts, and light enough to keep bouncing from one set of ruts to another. And of course, when I fishtail my way up the first steep hill, there are two idiots blocking both lanes talking to each other at the top. The last mile I was in 4 wheel low and still couldn't get above second gear. |

That's pretty much what I got here on the DC Beltway, about two feet, it's at the mirrors. Shoveled three times yesterday and got the driveway pretty much cleared. That's about half of what I need to do here where I live. Problem is, we need to go to Sherry's house and shovel her out too, so I guess I'm about one third of the way finished with the shoveling.
