Lately, what's been working for me is just being poor. I sat down, and realized that I am spending, somtimes in excess of $400/mo. on take out food for my Girlfriend and myself. I've been too poor/cheap to buy food the past couple of weeks, in an attempt to save money, and I've already lost 10 lbs... Perhaps not the healthiest method, but so far, I have an additional $300 left when the next paycheck comes in, and that's a really good feeling!

diet is huge, when you eat ot your mostly getting "empty" food. eating out is the worst bang to buck ratio imaginable, i never eat out and i shop for my food, for $300 i do not even need to look at price i just see and buy, i get pretty heathy stuff and cook it myself, slow cooked stews or make pulled pork sandwiches, i know exactly whats going into my food because I made it, less salts less sugar less fat etc. plus i can have what i want, tuna salad or some shells with olive oil and some balsomic, even like to take bread make myself a snack of some oil dip lots of pepper and some thin slice summer saussage. plus that type of food is slow to eat and we all know eating slower helps. i love rice and steamed veggies, have some shrimp on the side its healthy fills you up and thr cost to meal ratio is effective. say fast good you spend $7 per person where as i can buy a $5 of shrimp, big box of $2 rice carrots at hella cheap potatoes at hella cheap some broccoli thats almost free and nice beer for around $20 this is enough to well feed 4 people and you wont eat ALL the rice at one time, so the effective food ratio is not so bad. i have however broken it down so far as to feed 0.05 per person. plus got lunch, snacks and left overs. effective healthy good for you food. A few years ago I did a low carb diet and it worked really well. I lost 30 lbs. But my biggest issue with all of these "here eat my food and loose weight" people is my feeling is it is hard to go back to eating normal food. There wasn't much education on how to continue to keep the weight off. So a few years later I have gained back what I lost and then some. I have a coworker that really doesn't look like he needs to diet told me about what he is doing. He is a smaller fellow and thin as a rail, but he wanted to improve his overall health. This diet he is doing isn't really a diet but loosing weight is part of what happens. It is called The Fasting Diet. But the thing is you really don't fast it is more of a calorie reduction for 2 days a week. I just got done with the audiobook and I feel that this may be the one for me. I am tired of people telling me that I can't eat this or that. There have been many studies about how just fasting can improve your overall health. So I am gonna give this one a shot. I feel I need to drop a good 70 lbs. So we will see how it goes. |

Scientific studies show that if you eat fast (gulp your food) you will eat more at a setting than if you eat slow. It takes 20 minutes of chewing to "satisfy" your psychological "full tummy" feeling. (guess mom wasn't wrong when she insisted that you should 'chew your food more') |

I used a low-carb diet to win a contest at work last year. We went for 3 or 4 months, and were judged on percentage of weight lost as compared to our original body weight. After a while, I plateaued and would have to stray for a weekend or so. I also used a 21 day "Daniel Fast" in the middle, which is basically a vegan deal, nothing that comes from an animal, no meat, dairy, sugars, fried or processed foods. The problem with any change in eating is that if you don't sustain it, you gain all the weight back and usually more. I have regained all but 5 or 10 pounds of the 30 I lost. I'm just not good at many things, I hate to give up eating. Seriously, as we get older, it is easier to sustain eating habits than sustaining an exercise regimen, but both together is definitely the best for us. Edited by ONEHARDHEAD, Jan 30 2016, 02:26 PM.
