Rebuilding the little red rocket. The xfi motor has like 200k and is acting all sorts of silly. So I got a motor with a reported 80k on the odo and non xfi (so it will have 3 rings and not 2) which is easier to find parts for....

So here is an order from ROCKAUTO..... the head gasket kit alone was a steal!!! I thought of buying 2, but resisted.

Part Number Part Type Price EA Core EA Quantity Total

1991 GEO METRO 993cc L3

CHAMPION LABS PH2835 (PH2835:P) Oil Filter
Wholesaler Closeout - Private Label Pkg. - 30 Day Warranty $ 1.40 $ 0.00 1 $ 1.40

FEL-PRO HS9651PT Cylinder Head Gasket / Head Gasket Set
Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty $ 32.79 $ 0.00 1 $ 32.79

FEL-PRO TCS45852 Camshaft Seal
Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty $ 1.88 $ 0.00 1 $ 1.88

ULTRA-POWER 46186 Air Filter $ 2.77 $ 0.00 1 $ 2.77

Shipping Ground $ 8.14

Order Total $ 46.98
:rocker

Even with my 30% coupon code for Advanced auto parts... the gasket kit would have been over $60

negative...

I talked to JM and he just said torque to 50ft lbs instead of the fsm 55

I reused the torque bolts on the head gasket swap on the xfi engine last year with no issues.

I'll post some pics of the 80k motor...it's kinda beat. Exhaust valve is not round and head gasket looks all sketchy :shake

the 5th picture shows 2nd exhaust valve all oblong and not good.

the head gasket looks very boogery as well.

I pulled the hydraulic lifters and they were all stuck.....i.e. no spring action whatsoever. LOLZ

Here is some pics of the bearings. they all pretty much look the same. They seem good and not pited. Should I soak in solvent to get the black gunk off or not be worried??

Don't worry about the black shit on the backside of the bearings or connecting rods. Those bearings look great. Get you a ring set and finish that bottom end and then we will do the valve job. No problem :cheers

so the geo is back together outside of a new serp belt.

Here is two videos. The first has an awful grinding sound from what I think is the starter.

Here is a video after I tested the starter and upgraded the ground strap. I think the sound went away. Thanks for any advice.
