My Geo Metro rides pretty high and feels like its going to roll every time i cut a corner, i drive on gravel back roads, and i was wondering if cutting the springs will help with the handling or hurt it due to it being the 94, i think it has the softer springs.

Anyone Tried?

Anti sway bars from a 95 up is the preferred first step

Not sure why it being a 94 would matter. But yes cutting the springs to lower them helps. About 1 coil in the front will bring it down about 2" In the back only take about 3/4s of a coil to get about the same. If your tricky leave a little more on the drivers side of each coil so that when you sit in the car, it sets how you want it to with the extra weight in it.

He is right. Get sway bars. They make a big difference. It's a fairly straight forward upgrade to do.

And from what i hear the 94 has softer springs so cutting might cause bottoming out if you were putting some G's on it, i doubt it would but i didnt want to cut them and find that problem, i'm doing it anyway.

Unless your Metro has less then 50K miles the first thing it needs to fix its "boat" handling is new shocks

True that. :gp
If you Are going to cut springs, cut them equal on both sides. :gamerz But swap the passanger and drivers side. The drivers side takes more of a "set" since 99% we drive solo. :drivin

1) hell, 17 and broke :(

2) this thing is a lot of fun if you dont value youre life and dont have it insured!

3) next comes a tubro kit on the g10.

#1 - Get used to it, your project ambitions will likely keep you broke...

#2- If #1 doesn't break you, then #2 will right after you pile it up and incur massive medical/property damage obligations without having insurance coverage...

#3 - See #1 & #2 above

just so you know going turbo is a super expensive ordeal, your talking thousands of dollars to have something quick and I promise It wont be something your going to want to beat up. You must realize that these cars were never ment to have "power" yet some people have gotten incredible results from many many hours of hard work and lots of money, my budget of 6000 is well overshot in my blue 4 door turbo, I'm already at 6K and its half complete. Parts are rare and hard to find this is not your average car to have and if you want all these things you are posting about I recommend not destroying the car you have by doing dumb things to it. every metro I have has gotten better and better faster and faster (if you can call it that) I think I'm up around 60 HP now and ill tell you it feels fast, ive taken MANY MANY tips from these old farts around here who know what they are talking about. we have all been you and we have all wanted our turd to fly. your car would be much better off fixing some of the issues it sounds like it has, why don't you make a project page so we can all see your car and get to know you. Trust me on the dumb stuff I have it all documented here, from missing critical parts to messing up installs and general "my bad" oops

i drive on gravel back roads,
For this reason alone i would not recommend lowering it. I live in the boonies, and also drive down gravel roads. What happens if you lower your car, and your driving down the road and they just re graded the road, Ugh oh rock! I would recommend instead of cutting your springs, upgrade them to a 95+ hatchback or sedan set. Youll get a little more lift out of it, but its a ton firmer.
