Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 to be discontinued; Look for a possible Dodge Attitude (Mitsubishi Mirage) here!

I am kinda surprised they are doing away with these models but this may open up possibilities for introduction of the Dodge Attitude here. This is a rebadged version of the of 3 cylinder Mitsubishi Mirage and is available in Mexico and elsewhere.

This might be a neat option and help Mitsubishi gain a gain in the US, especially with the Mirage. This might introduce more cars, more support, more aftermarket parts, etc. I am not a big Chrysler guy but this might be a good thing if they replace the Dart with this car.

Didn't they just bring the Dart back?

They were a flop. Actually not bad cars but they used a name from the past that shpuld not have been used on a fwd econocar. Same thing happened with the GTO, great car but low sales due to it not looking like a "GTO". Is Mitsubishi doing well in the US? Didnt know they wete still here, only one dealer near me and thats 2 hours away. Rest all shut down years ago. They had very little to offer, and what they did was old and behind the comoetition, plus they axed the EVO here.

I agree about the Chrysler/Dodge products. I am not a fan. I used to pretty much view Mitsubishi as a Japanese version at one time. At one time the two were essentially working together to make the same junk. The Mirage on the other hand has been holding up well to 100,000 miles and beyond (no one has driven one beyond this so no data). I have been researching these as several here have bought them and seem to like them. They look like the modern Metro if you ask me.

My girlfriend recently needed a new car and decided to get a Mirage. She used to own a Ford Festiva and we all know that was Ford's answer to the Geo Metro/Sprint. She loved that car and had to get rid of it because of a combination of circumstances. Anyway, she ended up with a car that she really didn't love and was a turd if you ask me or her. It wasn't a good one from the start (Suzuki Reno/Forenza). The Reno need quite a bit of work that tallied up to a good sum. We were looking at fixing the issues in the next few months as time and money allowed then the overheating started. The head gasket had let go and exhaust was bubbling in the coolant. I told her at this point that the car wasn't worth working on. I returned the radiator/heater hoses, thermostat, etc. I had planned to do for the cooling system.

Then we started driving around looking at cars. She was upset there was no modern day version of the Festiva. She was considering buying a used Festiva or Geo and we found some for about $1000. I told her they would probably need some work if they were even worth buying and the other issue was she still owed money on her other car that was going to hell.

Then we looked at the Mirage and it was love at first sight. This is a nice little 3 cylinder that gets 50 mpg while having more power and a MUCH broader torque curve than our Geos. She said it was the updated Festiva and fell in love with the blue color as that is what her old Festiva was. They only had the white ones in the manual but there were blue automatics sitting on the lot for her to see and that is the color she wanted. They had a manual one in a couple days and that was the car she got.

This is an inexpensive car but has a lot going for it, much like the Metro.

1. Longest warranty in the industry. I thought Kia/Hyundai were the best on that but the Mirage meets or exceeds all categories when compared side by side.
2. Metro like gas mileage in a non hybrid form.
3. DOHC variable valve timing using a TIMING CHAIN.
4. Roller lifters/cams starting in the 2017 model (there is no 2016, only 2015 and 2017). This will result in 78 HP and better slightly efficiency as well as longer life for the cams.
5. Stiffer suspension in 2017.
6. Bigger/better brakes in 2017.
7. Improved appearance/finish in 2017.
8. Same price in 2017.
9. More power and a broader torque curve than the Metro.
10. THREE cylinder for us Metro people.

My GF opted for the 5 speed DE (base model) which is what I would get. It is still relatively simple for a modern car. The ES gets into touch screens and all that crap from what I understand. The base model includes keyless entry and power windows/locks which are kinda nice. No more having to get out and "help" the crank windows of the Metro up the last couple inches with the door open!

I REALLY like this car. I also REALLY like my Metros but this IS the modern Metro if you ask me and I might just have to get one in 2017. It sounds like the 2017 will be released in the next 2-3 months so if my work continues at the rate it is, I will be owning one!

I never thought I would consider a Mitsubishi either but this IS the modern Metro! Forget about the Elio! This isn't smoke and mirrors.... It is the REAL DEAL. You can go buy one now or what is supposed to be an even better one in a few months.

Basically if one of these rebadged as a Dodge comes in and sell somewhat well, I think this would be a good option.

They look a lot like a Chevy Spark if you ask me. This is also a good looking small car but a Daewoo product like her old Suzuki Reno. Daewoo was a bad word to her by the time she was done with that car and I never brought the Spark up until she saw one after buying the Mirage. She liked the looks but quickly lost interest when I told her it was another Daewoo.

Chrysler's (or FCA) decision to revive the Dart brand name for use on an (unknown to North America) Fiat/Alfa-based platform was probably not a good idea.

When I turned 16 I owned an old Dart with a 225 slant six. It wasn't much but it was affordable, reliable, cheap transportation. Because Darts came in so many engine and body variants, that car appealed to grannies, poor students, small families, and drag racers. The new Dart looks nice, especially with its full width tail-lights, but is an otherwise anonymous sedan with questionable reliability and lukewarm performance.

Now if it had a Hemi.... :drool

I hope to have a very small payment so no issues with repossession. They also won't take it if you make the payments! We are talking about a $12,000 car here and not a Corvette! I run a business for myself and get so pissed off when people won't pay. I do not return equipment when the repair isn't paid for! That is just how you have to run a business or else you won't make money. I have had a few threaten to rob me or violence. There are a lot of bullies in this world. When it comes to this you must FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE! I let the ones who threaten to rob me or violence that this will be the last mistake they make in their life and they always back off. There are now motion sensors, security cameras, and loaded weapons to back those up!

You don't get something for nothing in this world and shouldn't expect that. I will say I have more issues dealing with the cheaper computer than the higher end ones. I guess the same must go for cars.

Besides you don't need a fancy car to pickup women! My first date with my current one was picked up in the GEO METRO and she is very sane and sensible, not crazy like some of the others. We are going on two years together so not bad. She is a Ford Festiva fan after all which was basically the same idea as the Metro.

Keep in mind that inflation adjusted, the Mirage and other new cars are the same price or less as the Metro and other econo cars of the past, all while offering more features. The one thing appealing about the Mirage is the Metro mileage.

This is not an expensive car but seems to be a good one!

This is pretty stupid on the part of FCA. They nailed the Dart's problems...bigger and more expensive than rivals. So the solution is to axe it??

When gas prices rise again...and they will...people's habits will shift again away from large, heavy 4wds and back to compacts.

And FCA will be left out in the rain. I don't think anyone will miss the 200, but killing the Dart (note they didn't say when this was happening) is a bad idea.

It's the one vehicle they make that I didn't think totally sucked...

Sounds like a nightmare of epic Lifetime Movie proportions!

It's bad enough to run across the occasional possessed car, but the horror of going through a successful auto-exorcism (not to be confused with autoeroticism) to rid your car of its demons, just to have them come back and repossess it not just for one car but for two of them is honestly more than I could bear. I don't see how you can handle it.

Have you considered that your Metro might also be possessed, and that's the real reason why you have the only Metro in the world that the driver of every single large vehicle near you on the highway wants to risk their vehicles and lives just to run you and your Metro off the road?
