I can totally see a vert being a chick magnet. I once knew a guy who picked up a terrible Miata and didn't help the problems be running the engine until it was dry on oil. The thing barely ran but he got more action than all the other guys in his circle because of that car!

In all likelihood it's prolly not just the car, my Beard & uber manly good looks might play a part too!

I'd hate to deal with car payments again, but it would be awesome to be able to own a brand new car. If the new Mirage is as great as everyone says it is, I'd seriously consider one. I wish they sold a stripped-down version with no A/C or power windows, like the 9K one sold in Canada.

My girlfriend's Mirage was $11,800, brand new. She sold her '99 Metro, put $2,000 down, and her 7 year loan has something like a 2-3% interest rate.

Her payment is $172 a month. I'll agree that payments suck, but a fry cook could afford a Mirage. :lol

I think that is the main reason they have sold so well...they are cheap as hell!

PS: The one in Canada is CDN$9998...about $6800 US! :O

You should easily be able to find a DE base model for under 10k soon, since the newer model is on the way. Dealers will be discounting the 2015 models, especially when the new ones hit the lots. Start searching on cars.com

The 2017 model will have some nice improvements. As someone said on another thread, it would be nice to be able to own a cool little car like this from new and not have to worry about someone buying it just because it was cheap and treating it as such. I mean it would be nice to open the hood to find the alternator bracket intact and not tensioned with a coat hanger twisted around it and to look through the oil fill and see clean metal, not sludge. You only live once so this might be one to buy new and make sure it is a good one. It is certainly cheap enough.

Now is probably also a good time to buy with the low gas prices. People are stupid and back to buying their big SUVs.

Very true. As has been mentioned, there might be some deals to be had on the '15s. Judging by what you have said you are looking for, a '15 would probably suit you just fine.

Yeah, I am happy with her little car and want one. I have to say I am more up in the air about the better suspension the more I read. This might be kinda nice. Also, the engine improvements are appealing.

Anyway, I think the time to buy is sooner rather than later because we all know something will happen and oil prices will zoom back up again.

It'll happen eventually, but buyers are pretending it won't, and the manufacturers have to follow demand. FCA boss Sergio Marchionne has said he's treating the low gas prices as a "permanent condition," which is why they're discontinuing compact cars in the U.S. Ford is also not expecting anything to change within the next decade, and is about to introduce four new SUV's, likely including a resurrected Bronco.

My dad had a 1972 Dodge Dart that was ok condition. He dropped a rebuilt 318 into it, put a dual carb set up on it, and also put a 4 speed 3.19 gear tranny on it with positrack. Dear lord that car was amazing.

My mom made him sell it quick, he only got $1000 for it. He probably could have got $5000 if he let it sit for a few...
