RockAuto Alternatives? Warehouses Killing Me

To clear up some confusion. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS ONLINE. You enter the Speedperks and disc. code in your shopping cart (located left of Check out/ Check out with Paypal.)

Usually can't apply online codes to oil and some items on special. They will say that when you find them. If you have problems with codes, that is why.

HaHa, it's funny, but now optimizing your purchases to maximize discounts at AA is like what you do at RA to minimize shipping.

One thing I really like about AA is that they are local and if the part doesn't fit, I can bring it back.

I seed about that Speed Perk thing: you get a $20 SP when you spend over $100. So evidently they let you have it for borrowing the tool.

RE: discount codes: I know that lots of people find them at the coupon sites, but I wonder where these codes originally come from?

Gives you 30% off of $50 or more dollar order.... If you do $100 it would be like getting 60% off.

You're Welcome....Ya'll can get me a beer at Geopalooza :)~
No...just no.

30% off $50 or more. So only 30% off $50 or more (up to a total of $50) off.

There is no online code (by itself) that gives you 60% off.
30% of 2 orders of $50 is just 30% off $100... :lol

Every once in a blue moon they give out 50% off, but it is usually for the first 500 people. I am never one of those people. Pretty damn hard.
Just assume 40% off is your max (not including speed perks)

AA makes the codes, They just don't promote them. They often promote the 20% off order.

TRT41 has been around for a while and I don't think it is going away. They told me they are competing really hard for RA customers. I am almost a completely loyal AA customer. No one can match those prices (usually)

I find Advance Auto Parts to be extremely competitive with RockAuto only when quality is similar. Advance Auto Parts offers the 30-40% discounts and even 50% once in a while, but what makes it shine is the cashback programs that you combine it with. For example, 1% or 2% on your credit card cashback goes along with FatWallet or BeFrugal or Splender which can give you 6-8% cashback. You potentially can take off 60% off the overall cost which would blow RockAuto out of the water but expect approximately 40 to 50% on average depending on how large your order is. But RockAuto does rock when it comes to their heavy discounts and sales.
How does Splender/Fatwallet/Befrugal give an extra 5-8% back?

I just saw that splender gives 8%, but I don't quite understand how?

Assuming you can add those to the other discounts, rewards, perks, then yes you can save EVEN MORE!!! :D

But if your original order is $120 and you use perks/discounts to get to $60. then you use a cashback card of 2% plus your sites mentioned of 8%, that does not equal 60% off your total. Can not add the 50%+2%+8% since the 2+8% is actually at the discounted price of $60....so cut that 10% in half for total savings over the original bill. But it is still great if that is the way it works! :thumb

Hopefully I didn't confuse anyway!

Thanks Yiffzer! Here is how Splender works. I'm excited now to start buying!!!!! https://www.splender.com/#!/how-it-works

Horn,

I hadn't caught onto Speed Perks yet but I saw your great post on how to take advantage of these codes. So we're looking at:

Speed Perks + Coupon Code + Credit Card Cashback + Referral Link Cashback

Imagine this scenario:

Optima Red Top Battery 725 CCA Group 25 - $213.99
Speed Perk of $20 off = $193.99
Coupon of $50 off over $125 = $143.99
Total Price including tax = $155.50
8% Cash Back from BeFrugal / Splender = $12.44 off.
1% Cash Back from Credit Card = $1.55 off
Total Cash Back = $13.99
Ultimate Price of Optima Battery = $141.51

Tell me if you can find anything better than this. I checked everywhere and a serious contender to this price was from Optima direct purchase on Amazon for $140.70. But you'd still have to pay sales tax on top of this making it $151 anyway and there is zero referral cashback on this.

This is my everyday method of buying things and saving serious cash. As a consequence, I spend very little on maintaining my Geo Metro.

Same here Yiffzer!!!!
That is only assuming that 8% works with speedperks+online code. I have a feeling that it will remove the online code. I haven't used befungal/splender, so I'm not sure how they factor in the discount.

But yes, if they all work together, you are correct. One thing you forgot is you never counted tax on your original price. Either way you are are still saving a SHIT TON.

The great thing is picking up the parts in store vs waiting on amazon.

The problem with your example is that the discounts don't carry as much weight as they would in my example. I try to stop my orders at $100 if possible. (well, $120 now for speedperks). You obviously can't do anything about it if 1 item is over that. The parts I always buy run from $40-$100 for the most part. You get very good at finding small items, because you will be $2 away from hitting the desired threshold so you just add something small.

This is a huge benefit on regular batteries because they always seem to run about $120. You can get them around $60-$70 after discounts.

Horn, not sure if you caught it but my calculation did include sales tax. Even after sales tax, it's a hot deal. I haven't found anything lower than this. And yes, I only provided an example with a high value item. Obviously, if you were to go with a lower value item, you'd make more use out of a coupon. :)

Yiffzer - i meant I dont think your original price of $213.99 didnt include tax. Some people will think 213.99-final discounted price after tax is what you saved when really it is 213.99(times 1.07) - final discount price x 1.07.....just assuming tax is 7%.

Actually the tax would be applied before the cashback and splender discounts....but you get the idea.

If you do this with Splender sites, let us know if it worked. I have a feeling it won't, but I really have no idea.

I have a suspicion that some of these RA "warehouses" vary and are actual stores/distributors' locations that are actually being liquidated. It would make sense. Why move the stuff out of a store that is closing? Just sell the inventory "where is."

I just checked tracking on my current order and it is coming from Cleveland. That sounds like a new city to me. Perhaps another closing store location?

I've had some luck with both eBay and Amazon. Other than that, most of my parts are second hand or specialty stuff. If I need something and RA is too much (shipping wise) I go to Autozone/Advanced Discount.
