Ok so after 2 years of near daily driving of my awesome reliable and somewhat resurrected from life support 98 2 door, I happened to stumble on a couple of pretty sweet metro deals ( I d been meaning to add to my collection for a year now but always drug my heels ) and now I m not sure which to dive into first and or which direction to go with them, hoping to hear some thoughts from the cyber world. First off a maroon 94 3/5 in the 4 door hatchback style. 112k miles clean title with the original owner an older lady, runs pretty well though I think its sat a lot. Super straight body and glass, interior is dirty as hell and some of the door hardware is sticky but its all there. 250$ Second a week later was a white 2000 2 door lsi, 4 cyl / auto, was in an accident with driver left front taking the brunt, though no engine or trans damage sustained. starts and drives / shifts though of course alignment is out. Main damage is to the bumper mount part of the unibody frame and some of the fender well crunched in. Body is overall though one of the cleanest straightest I ve seen besides that damage. immaculate interior, 102k miles, clean title. also 250$ Really kind of sad, its a nice little car that somebody really babied. My initial plan was to build somewhat of a sleeper out of the 4 door as I ve thought they would be a neat candidate for that, then along came this 4 banger and I mainly bought it to strip as a parts car and swap the engine, seats, etc into the 4 door, and just part out the rest. Only thing is the more that I get the wreckage of the one pulled out the more I m thinking it could be salvaged with some body work and possibly fabrication. I m really torn cause I love the idea of the 4 cyl swap. Also in general I plan to spruce up the the 4 door and make her pretty again ( I ve always had a thing about fixing sad torn up old cars for some reason ) Anyway while fully restoring the 2000 though I m sure possible, would most likely not be time or cost effective, I m coming up with all kinds of crazy ideas for it like an offroad or even street legal chopped down go kart, maybe swapping the two engines since cut down the 2 door would weigh a lot less. At this point I m just looking for ideas, not in any huge hurry just want to get started in one direction on one car for now. Bearing in mind neither of these cars are intended to be a daily driver but project / toys at least for now. Sorry no pics at this time, I m on a work computer and no pic uploads allowed, but I ll work on that. Any and all thoughts from you guys would be much appreciated |

Check out member evmetro. He put together a killer 4 door. Nicest one I've ever seen. Made me even consider one. Member kik also has a killer older model one. |

Send me a copy of the ad for the 4-door, I'll buy my plane ticket tonight. ![]() I would be all over the early style one in a heart beat. A wrecked car, I'd really have to think that one over. I've always been biased to the early models, however... especially 4 doors! |

Haha, well I think I see a thread direction here. Sounds like a pretty definite direction ! I think I came across wrong in my overly long initial manifesto though. These cars aren't still for sale, they are sitting in my backyard lol. Anyway Im mainly trying decide if I'm going to start a 4 cyl motor swap on the 4 door. Or leave it in the 2 door and start something there. I think I'm with you guys so far, I have a definite soft spot for the early 4 doors too. |

How do you intend to do that? Exactly what "year" would you intend to configure the engine, systems, and PCM as? I think you're going to run into some seriously interesting OBD I vs OBD II systems considerations along with harness and computer choice issues. |

Been researching this thread in particular http://geometroforum.com/topic/3700357/1/ and a few others. This guy seems to have pulled it off pretty well to be honest. I have no doubt the wiring will be the big headache, sounds like it requires pretty much a complete transplant of wiring / fuses boxes / computer etc. having a donor car should make the rest fairly doable, plus I know of a good source for the shift linkage and motor mounts so not worried too much about that. As I say there is a side of me that wants to keep the 4 banger in place and have a off highway toy and just work on tricking out the 4 doors little 3 cyl as best as possible, still there is something I just cant shake about wanting to have the old style 4 door with a really hot 4 cyl |

Ahh no fair, you didn't say you already had one Even more jealous you found a GTi powerplant, been looking for one of those sometime now, figured I d just have to settle with this single cam. Heres the little red one I m working with, just wish that passenger side fender wasn't peeling, original paint is very buffable otherwise[IMG] [/IMG] |

+ Evap system, fuel system all the way back back to the tank, probably a lot more, and you need the correct 2000 computer - can't use the one you have. Seems like a nightmare amount of work.

Are you sure ? Fuel systems both have the same 3 lines running to the front, the lines themselves look the same at least. Difference being the Evap valves in the tank on the new one, charcoal canister on the old. As far as the computer everything I ve read leads me to believe the auto one will work just fine outside of the engine reving a little when put in reverse. Or do you know otherwise ? |

'Welllll...I'm honored to even be mentioned in the same thread as evmetro ! I may even wash mine now if the weather warms a tad..." No doubt that is a clean looking little 4 door, and while I can totally appreciate the work and attention to detail Evmetro has in his, I m honestly not that big a fan of the later model 4 doors. Yours looks sweet |
