https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitch.tv. My son has been a computer geek forever, worked for several large high tec companys. Only problem is they are all down town San Francisco. But he makes good money. For a kid that quit at a junior in high school, he does better than I could of ever hoped to do. He learned to program at a young age. Learning Lynux. |

Landed a job with Twitch is amazing. Is it with Twitch or just a sponsor on Twitch? There is a big difference. I was actually affiliated with a few big streaming and content creation websites. The pay was awful, but I was doing it for fun at the time. To make money streaming, you really have to sell advertisements and get private sponsorships. Anyway, if it is with Twitch and he is doing IT work for them, that is awesome! Super stoked and indefinitely jealous. That's a major career field and a well known name. It will definitely be good experience he can transfer if he moves away from that company in the future. |

Well almost, he drives a Kia Rio over the hill to catch bart in to the city. His last job allowed him to work from home couple days a week. He said this one will too after a while. |

$150K for a server admin? That's ridiculously good pay! Twitch.tv is popular, for sure. I don't have time to look at other people stream their lives but it's certainly enjoyable for some. |

Mostly 12-18 year olds. I think that is the primary audience for both YouTube and Twitch. I think we all know kids/teens have a ton of free time on their hands. |

I walked away from that field. Good money, but it's a stressful life, because you don't exist when things are right, then when shit goes wrong, you have to have it fixed yesterday. Good luck to him and hopefully he can pull out before it burns him out. |

It's also underappreciated. The best IT is when you're not even a blip in the users' minds. The worst IT is when users see issues and they blame you. |

To defend the attacker in this situation, IT departments are pretty lack luster in some cases. I know our company IT department will spend half a day trying to install the wrong drivers before they realize Win10 drivers won't work on a WinXP machine. Nor will 64bit software work on a 32bit OS. Kinda like working on a car and skipping the 'does it have gas?' step. With this said, they are under paid and really have no experience. Our IT department hires no experience individuals because no one with experience will work for the wages they offer. The only good IT staff we had left after gaining enough experience to get a good job. Edited by Freeman, Feb 9 2016, 02:59 PM.

My wife's IT department's job description consists of asking users whether they've turned off and on a machine. It's pathetic and sad. |

I'm sorry if I came across as attacking, it was a good career for a while, and I thought I would share my experience and some wisdom I got given. TurboEF I have had the misfortune of working with guys like that, book smart, certification carrying but brutal in practice. You are right also about wages, I was lucky for the most part, but it was still an uphill fight to get fair wages for my skills some days. Some days though I actually miss doing that stuff, but then I remember the thankless users and some are downright abusive.
