Has any 1 here made an item and had it patented? I made a couple things which resulted in one being brought to market. Have documentation to prove it. My wife's relative invented the 1rst field tile machine. It is on display @ the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village. "The Buckeye Trencher/Frank Hill. My neighbor holds the patent on the "light sticks" used on semi front bumpers & 4wheel drive trucks. Bores Mfd. Monroeville, Ohio. Took him 27years to obtain the p. rights to his item . Similar to "Starlight" invented in Britain by a blue collar guy.......aerospace wanted his item BAD. He wanted 51% control of his made item. Big buSINess would not agree. He took his invention to the grave. That being said I hope to attend Geopalooza this year with my item. This item is similar to my first invention........simplistic in function & durable. An item used and needed by many from all walks of life. Understand liabilities , greed, theft & other factors quickly can/do come into the equation. pm me if you are knowable in marketing skills or other arenas regarding product development. Thanxs.

during the 5 1/2 years i worked at battelle memorial labs i had 5 patents. the intellectual property waiver i signed made things go like this - every manager above me added his name to the top of the list as it went up the management chain. they awarded me a framed silver dollar and a framed letter of commendation.

30 years later it doesn't mean squat. :P

inventing something and getting recognized or paid for it are 2 completely different things. :D

Losing battle. You can obtain a patent, which will take a lot of hassle and patent attorney fees. Then you will have to pay annual maintenance fees for the duration of your patent. Licensing is the problem. Big biz has two patent strategies: 1) buy not license, but all patent rights, paying you spare change, and if that doesn't work, 2) undermine your patent. To do 2), they will file their own application for essentially same invention, with some minor changes. Works very well with good lawyers.

The field is heavily slanted against a little guy, so don't bother yourself.

I helped create a few patent applications for the company I work for and am listed on 2 that we got....a couple more still pending...
I was instrumental in drawing many of the ideas for our patent attorney as well...

Patents are the bunk, being specifically designed to be used by the rich. Trade secrets are where it's at. Don't ask for protection you won't get anyway. Go straight to market and make your money before they can retool to produce your inventions.

Inardozi I dis-agree. Yeah its a *&&%$ ; but because most people are vain, greedy & weak , love to sue, etc. its a necessary evil. Sadly. Similar to those that are musicians.....fat greedy slobs want to profit from some one else & their creativity. And yes I do get some SOME money till I die from my efforts on a previous situation . How many here have been told "Those Metros are dangerous! The front end!" Some lead ,many follow, few walk independent. George Roeder's record still stands @ Bonneville Salt Flats.

Aha! That solves the great double secret "I have a patent but I'm not telling you what it is" mystery.

It involves putting a Harley Davidson Streamliner body on a Metro, then the frame horns won't break while tailgating at record speeds. ^o) Thank you for making everything crystal clear now. :thumb

For Pete's sake, how childish to get on the forum as scream "Look at me - I have a patent!" "But I'm not telling you what it is. :rasp "

Congratulations to you and your patent, whatever it is. :cheers
