So when my income tax return gets here I'm going to be buying and installing some parts for my metro. I'm getting all 4 kyb struts, both lower control arms by moog, and I'm gonna rebuild my front axles while its all apart. My question is do I need an alignment after swapping lower control arms and all 4 struts? Any way to tell besides drive on flat ground and let go of the wheel?

If your wheels are good then you probably want to get an alignment so you don't destroy your good wheels.

There are ways to check your own alignment. Google it. I use a long wooden pole to measure the distance between the front wheels, front and rear part of each wheel. Works well. You can use string hung alongside the car as a reference, but you need to know that the rear wheel base may be shorter than the front wheel base. On my car the rear is about an inch shorter.

Are you changing out the toe in adjuster rods in the back? Mine were worn out. The stamped sheet metal bracket would not hold onto the rubber bushing anymore. I replaced them with an aftermarket set from dethbird at TS. Very nice all alum with hyeim joints. Very strong and light weight. It was about the same $

Im doing the same work, along with the rear toe bars. All 4 KYBs, lowering springs, control arms, shock and strut mounts, and thinking about getting new inner and outer tie rods. Then alignment soon after that.

Dethbrd also has round aluminum bars and can also get chrom moly for even more strength. Im getting the big aluminum versions for $159 shipped.

You could get away without it, but I would get it aligned. I replaced my lower control arms, and I plan on doing the tie rod ends next year, but I opted to get it aligned now so I don't trash the new tires that I just installed. It runs down the road better now, and doesn't pull off to the side. ^o)

Although the aluminum toe bars are great most Metro drivers will never need them. They will let you do a 90 degree turn at about 50 mph. I don't know the weight difference between the the ones your talking about and stock, but the ones I have on are definitely lighter than stock. Don't let me discourage any Metro drivers from buying and installing them because I definitely want to promote every product option available for our cars.

I'm thinking there must have been an implied radius in that statement. :hmm

After all, virtually every Metro in the world (but not all) can safely do a 90 degree turn @ 50 mph.... given a large enough radius. :lol
