Metro pulling to the right

Thank you guys. In the morning I will swap tires and see what happens. I guess the next step after that is new cv axle.

the reman axle is about $10 cheaper but had a lot of issues with them being bad so now i only use new ones.

Hey guys, I just rotated the front tires and guess what, she now pulls to the left. So I guess that issues is figured out. I did notice the noise that I was hearing is still there in the same location. I am assuming this is possible where the cv axle boot is torn, perhaps its low on grease and I hear it when turning? (keep in mind I only hear it when turning left)

I have one that I can only run in the rear. Had the car aligned and it still pulled. Swapped tires and It pulled the other way.

I prefer the remanufactured axles. In theory you are getting OE.

I once bought new axles for my 4/5 and found the right axle vibrated during acceleration at around 25 mph. On my 4/5 the right axle is a split shaft where the outer shaft slides over the inner shaft. The new after market outer shaft was about a 1/4 inch too short on the part that slides over the inner shaft, allowing it to wiggle too much during acceleration.

With the remanufactured, you can keep buying them until you get a good one. With the new one having a design flaw, you will never get a good one. I found the new left axle did not last any longer than the remanufactured one. They are not as good as OE.

Im not to sure. I need new tires anyway. Ill just replace them all and have everything balanced

If you guys have tires that are pulling bad enough that you can't run them on the front they should be taken off and thrown away. There's something screwed up and it isn't safe to use.

The problem I have run into is if a tire has a bigger diameter because it is newer. My sis got an unfixable flat on her Bronco II. So I went and bought a replacement. Then I drove the car to Reno for Thanksgiving. The car was pulling left the whole trip. When we got to Reno I got the car aligned thinking that was the problem. No help. By the time I got home in LA, I had figured out the new tire on the rear axle was making the car pull left. Because it was a new tire it had a bigger diameter. I guess I should have replaced both rear tires.

My problem (severe right pull) was the front pass tire looked real good until I actually removed the tire and I saw severe inside tire wear that did not show until I removed the tire.

Now you need to figure out why the car wore the tire that way.

Yes, the question why the suspension caused heavy wear on the inside of the tire occurred to me. Any of our gurus have an answer? Meanwhile I will Google it.

Update: Googling revealed 3 possible reasons. 1) alignment 2) ball joint. and 3) poorly greased or defective tie rod .

How to remedy or eliminate the suspect is the question ?

You can make your own alignment tool to check your alignment, at least for toe, if you don't want to spend the $70.

My sis complained of brake shudder on her Taurus. I pulled on the tire and could feel some play. I assumed it was the bearings and replaced them. When I test drove it afterwards I could hear a clicking sound over any bump. Pulled on the tire again and clearly the ball joint was wasted. Not sure why I didn't see it the first time. Could be I wasn't looking for it. Or maybe disconnecting it from the control arm reoriented its position. I ended up replacing the knuckle cuz on the Taurus the ball joint is not replaceable (in theory). So, detecting a bad ball joint can be simple or hard.

well yesterday i was able to replace the cv axle. i noticed that it felt extremely loose on the end that connects to the wheel. after i was done i was putting the wheel back on and noticed the wheel is warped... like badly. here is a picture to give an idea what the tire is like... this is not my picture, i didnt get one because my phone was dead and my digital camera is messed up.

After I noticed this i put the tire back on, did a test drive to see if the noise i was hearing was gone, it is. obviously the car still pulls to the side. tomorrow after work i plan to take the car to get new tires if i can afford 4 new ones, if not i may just have a used tire put on until i can afford all new tires.
