I am looking for any info on the wiring issues . I have a 2000 metro with a 1.3 16 valve single cam engine that is no good and I would like to swamp it for a 1.3 8 valve engine from a 97 metro both are automatics. Can i just swamp the ECM and engine wire harness? Or does the in dash harness have to be changed? I have a complete donor car. Looks like a lot of work to change the the in dash harness. |

You might get more answers by posting in one of the tech sections I assume you mean swap, and not swamp If you wanted to swamp it roll down a window and fill the car with water from a garden hose |

Driving it into a lake works equally well. You should be fine swapping just the engine harness and ECU might need to do some additional wiring for the ignition coil. The 16valve has the coils on the valve cover the 8 valve I belive is mounted on the firewall. |

Your 2000 is a G13BB. Your 97 is a G13BA. From what I have read, they share the same short block (G13B). For example see the end of this thread: http://geometroforum.com/topic/4460337/2/ . Depending on what is wrong with your 2000 / G13BB, one strategy would be to put the head from the 2000 / G13BB on the block from the 97 / G13BA, then put that in your 2000. Then your car remains stock & you don't have to monkey with wiring or other problems, like if you need a smog check in CA and you are not allowed to put in an older engine. The G13BB valve train is considered pretty rugged. If it is smoking at start up, you may want to change out the valve seals during the transfer. Anyway, it depends on your skills. If your overheated the G13BB then the head might be warped and you would have to mill it before transferring. Perhaps other forum members could chime in about the blocks being the same. Just learned anyways is a colloquial variant of anyway. Thought anyways was correct. Who'd a thunk it. |

You would have to compare the wiring schematics for both PCM's and see if they are compatible. The 97 is a throttle body setup and 2000 a MPFI one. Big difference. More than likely you would have to swap the entire wiring harness from the 97 to the 2000 car. I have a 97 fsm but not a 2000. If you need anything from the 97 fsm let me know and I can send it to you. |

I think you're going to have to swap the dash harness too. PCM will probably have different connectors. The newer engine is a better design, more power, more mileage. |

I would find another 16 valve. MUCH better engine in my opinion. |
