I have been starting to write up a gas tank replacement post, (which is incomplete), but it seems you need something to look at right away, so here is a picture of the tank hose routing. |

The two parallel metal lines from the tank top are fuel + return lines. The rubber line by itself is the vent. |

if that donor Metro in the salvage yard is still there I could use the dash switch pods (headlight, wipers), and maybe we could exchange for some vert parts you might need...

Sounds like you are doing it right. Get new metal welded in. I am curious where and how much for the new gas tank? I have a dent in mine but all the junkyard cars have the tank punctured. I never thought new a]was available. Speaking of junkyard, the junkyards of Colorado and California look like parking lots anywhere else. No rust. (Little in CO) the undercarriage hardware still has its cadmium finish. In California the crazy laws put [perfectly good cars off the road for tax reasons, added to that whatever they can tow. Practically every car would be a mechanics delight. Great Mercedes still smelling like their rich owners. All to the crusher in 30 days. What most tugged at my heartstrings was a Honda AN-. It seemed like it may have dated from a time when Japan tried to compete in metal gauge with the U.S. Solid sounding body. Then on the dash it is all universal equipment. A sturdy headlight switch. The motor had been taken (at least someone got some use out of it) exposing the chain which drives the transmission. I have never tried to buy a car out of a junkyard. I figure they would know a sure sucker the minute they see one. And at that time I had no place to put it anyway. The fact that the engine was gone made me consolable. But like all the others, it went to the crusher. Completely rust free. Even the Geo Metros are slowing down in years before 94. VW buses used to be common, now pretty rare, one or two a year. On a nice day (or even a rainy day) sitting in someone's smelly car with the seagull crying. That's the life! |

you can get the gas tank from rock auto for about $110 plus shipping I believe. for the wheels they came off of a late 90's civic not sure of the exact year it had a blown head gasket so I threw some steelies on it and went on my way as for the tires they were $55 each I get decent discounts because I buy most everything for car through were I work |

"Best" is subjective (at best). A rather pointless question. You'll get piles of responses and start an argument in a hurry, asking that. Tell us what you want out of it, and you might get the response you want. Ie: loudest? Highest quality sound? A happy marriage of both? Best bang for the buck?
