there was no crank position sensor pre 96. 95 and earlier do not use one. (OBDII development) also, I saw you said there is a cel/ses, first time I read it as no cel. I am surprised it runs at all. I don't post pix reliably, but if you PM me i can email you pix........maybe someone will post for you. Edited by sphenicie, Mar 29 2016, 08:42 AM.

Have you checked to see what codes are stored? You would need a obdii reader or scan tool. Most autoparts stores will check it for free. The engine will run without the crank sensor hooked up. With it not hooked up you should have a po335 code stored in the pcm. The PCM uses the crank position sensor signal to detect a engine miss fire. You shouldn't be seeing any other driveability problems due to it not hooked up. If you want to know what year engine it is go to the link that Silver2K posted and look in post 4 and 5. That letter will tell you what year the engine is. |

Thanks Silver! Sphenicle, the CEL "IS" on. I've pulled the codes from the cpu and the only remaining code is a "P0335"-crankshaft position sensor A circuit malf. (Since the cord is not plugged in, that's a given.) Could you send picsome of where it is located on the block? As I said previously, I've spent multiple hours searching, to no avail. I know I have glasses for a reason, but I'm not THAT blind. Haha |

This is from the 97 FSM. Looks like the 4 cylinder is the same as the 3. Just like the picture posted earlier.

If your engine is supposed to have a crank sensor there should be a half round indent in the oil pan like the picture shows. What valve cover is on it ? Aluminum would be 95 on up and if it's a stamped steel one it most likely came out of a Suzuki Swift. Ken....... |

looking at FSM book 2 1996, page 6E2-A1-3, it looks to be the same location. although looking at same book, pages, 8A-201-0 + 8A-201-1, it is not pictured for 3 cyl (8A-201-1) and 4 cyl is unclear. I remembered reading it somewhere, finally found it, Haynes, page 6-6 paragraph 20, gives different locations. I do not have a 4 cyl here to check. I am beginning to think that the CKS has been removed..... crvett69's picture is a good pic. look in that area for a "hole" that the sensor should be in. Edited by sphenicie, Mar 30 2016, 08:37 AM.
