Adaptive Direct Steering

(1) Another steer by wire system intended to provide enhanced steering benefits to drivers.
(2) Another variant of Electronic power electronic steering offered by Infiniti/Nissan on Q50 sedans. This steering system eliminates the steering wheel shaft that normally connects the steering wheel to the steering rack/electric assist motor. In case of power failure, a clutch pack mechanically reconnects the steering wheel to the steering gear.
(3) This innovation sounds like it was inspired by a console game controller. Recalls suggested that some early production version software switched off the wireless steering below freezing temperatures; the back-up mechanical clutch system also did not engage quickly under these conditions.

The auto start/stop feature is no big deal, and I personally think it's a good idea. I have a little concern when you talk about a 'steer by wire' system with a not good fail safe. If Ayrton Senna taught me one thing it was you want your steering column to be connected to the steering wheels.

Don't ask me...
I though cameras on cell phones was the stupidest thing ever when they first came out and that they would be a short live fad...

Yes, that is one of the things I admire most about the Geo Metro. It is so simple to work on without all this nonsense technological crap that most here don't really want. The Mirage may seem simple compared to most new cars but it still has lots of electronic modules compared to a Metro.

Rpm management in neutral

(1) Engine Rpm behavior in neutral is managed by ECU rather than gas pedal inputs
(2) Most newer cars especially high performance engines prevent driver from revving the engine beyond a certain Rpm lower than redline. Some also limit how quickly Rpm returns to base idle after a quick stab of the gas pedal. Hemi engine Dodges for example drop to 4000 Rpm and stay there for a few seconds before slowly returning to idle. The reason for this is to lower emissions and discourage "needless driver demonstrations of engine performance"
(3) For everyone that recalls dash pots from the 70's as well as anti dieseling solenoids, welcome back to hi tech electronic versions intended to minimize your fun.
