I call it "Newstainment". There are a lot of things on the news that are not really news if you ask me.

Conor
That's why I only read the paper. The only way it can get worse is to read the news online; especially on a website like www.yahoo.com.
Who the F uses yahoo anymore....."Hey guys, the 20th century called, they want their search engine back."
I used it every day for years as my home page. :P

I switched to a lesser-known classic a few years ago, and I plan on keeping it. It loads quickly, and contains no BS.

Edit: Yahoo was just an example. AOL, MSNBC or www.msn.com, whatever you use.

Nothing but Duck Dynasty and Honey Boo Boo for you, eh? Because higher education is such an impediment to the Democratic process.

Never watched honey boo boo or duck dynasty. I have more than one college degree. Just because I dont follow the liberal beliefs has nothing to do with learning. If you like socialism and other liberal/leftist type things, its your right. I hate reality tv of all kinds, its not even real life, its a scripted bs. I like shows like Mythbusters, real life in the ER, real medical shows, csi and forensic files type shows, about any vehicle related shows, etc.

I agree that "reality" TV is among the most scripted TV on earth! I watched some reality TV on subjects of interest to me and it was such BS. Sure, it was entertaining but there was ZERO reality in it. The things people were doing would NEVER be done in real life.

I agree that most of what is out there is biased in some way or another. PBS has some good stuff even if they are more to the liberal side. There are some things I don't get but I guess that is to be expected.

I work on computers and you would be AMAZED at the number of people who still use Yahoo! One of the most common requests is to setup Yahoo! as the homepage and get their e-mail passwords stored. I am personally a Google/G-mail guy but to each their own.

What's wrong with Yahoo? I think some of the news articles are silly, but it was my homepage for years. I used it until I wised up and started using POP into an e-mail client to download my mail into, rather than unreliable, poorly-designed webmail. See, my beef with them is with them switching Yahoo mail, when they dumped the greatest webmail client ever, Yahoo classic. It was designed perfectly, ran smoothly, and had an attractive, easy-to-use design. Ran from 1995-2013 or so. The new design was glitchy, sometimes didn't log-in, and occasionally didn't retrieve e-mail. Why fix something when it's not broken, just in the name of "progress"? Especially when the new system is behind the old one, with a slow, clunky interface? Seems to be the opposite of progress if you ask me; the irony!

At the very least, they could have kept the old system alive for those that didn't want to upgrade. If it wasn't so hard (use the address everywhere), I would have totally dumped them totally. If you couldn't tell, I'm still a little bit bitter about this... :P

mt99999 - Yea, some online companies just don't understand that simplicity is better.

Then you have google who comes in and makes the most simple looking search engine and kills it! It is ok to make changes, but when something is great, you want to do it in moderation. For example when Windows went from 7 to 8.....WTF!? IMO xp, vista, and 7 different didn't seem too much different. Then they decide to do some drugs and make 8.

Totally agree! I have XP on my laptop (use it intermittently), and I run Windows 7 on my main desktop. I have no interest in 8 or 10.

I hate how everyone jumps right on the Google bandwagon. At my call center, you can't move the mouse on the computer without hitting a customer record with a G-Mail e-mail address on file... wow, that one was original! :lol

The most annoying thing about Google is when they bought Youtube, they forced me to use a Google account to post videos with my existing Youtube account. Then they harassed me to add my full name to my Youtube account until I simply quit signing in. I no longer comment or post videos to Youtube.

However, if nothing else, the main Google page easily loads and renders properly and quickly, even while running dial up on a Windows 95 computer with the ancient dated IE 5.5 browser from 2001. Ask me how I know; this was tested working as of 2015 with a 28.8 Kb/s modem... :lol

Edit: Spelling, because I never 'preview' the post before posting... :P

Windows 8 and 10 actually run great under the hood. They are the best Windows in terms of operation if you ask me. I don't know what kind of CRACK the person who designed the user interface as smoking! Windows 8 was TERRIBLE and almost unusable. Windows 10 is better but still not great. I understand there will be a major upgrade to 10 around July or so.

That being said, you can get the best of BOTH worlds (great performance and reliability/great interface) by installing Classic Shell. This can make your modern OS look like any other older one. I stay with the default Windows 7 look but you can choose others too.

I do agree that sometimes companies make changes that aren't for the better. Just look at cars.
