This is the Metro still in production in the 2016 model year in Pakistan:

Suzuki Cultus Euro II
Cultus

And the specs:

Price: approximately 10,000 US dollars for the base model.
Body style: 4 door hatchback.
Engine: G10B 4 cylinder 0.993 litter 16 valve SOHC, throttle body injection, 60hp@5,800 rpm. The engine is a short-stroke version of G13 with same cylinder diameter.
Transmission: manual 5-speed. No AT option.
Fuel economy: 60/45 mpg hwy/city (note that this is not EPA rating, so may not be directly comparable to US mileage).
Wheels: 155/80R13.
Curb weight (basic): 800 kg/1763 lb.
Airbags: none.
Options: CNG fuel, A/C, power steering, alloy wheels, AM-FM CD, body trim moldings, fabric seats and door panels, carpets.

Even by Pakistani standards, the car is considered obsolescent in style and design. What keeps it in production is rock-bottom price.

Considering the Euro II as a family member, the Cultus/Swift/Metro family is now in its 32nd production year. Almost like WV bug.

Why you Mutt!

Wonder if anyone can import some of the updated body parts?

I am not sure that body parts from this car will fit American Metros. In appearance, it resembles pretty closely 90-94 4-door hatchback, but that's only appearance. Only Suzuli could tell...

I sometimes see Metro parts sold on eBay by people from India, where Suzuki goes under the name of Maruti. I once bought a set of Maruti piston rings for G10 - it was OEM Suzuki set for a bargain price.

I love it! Why can't they bring a car to the US that looks like that? Aside from the aging Metros. I much prefer that body style over the style of the Mirage.

I'm surprised that it doesn't have airbags still. Then again, it is Pakistan.

Would never pass smog or safety regulations, and since Suzuki is basically nonexistent in the US, Suzuki wont spend millions to certify it, if its even possible to do with that car.

i'm not convinced that the engine is a g family engine. it's probably a rehash of the k10 engine that was used in the maruti and some other models that were never available in the north american domestic market.

the k10 was a cast iron block and not particularly performance oriented. they probably spiffed it up with a 16 valve head and let it roll.

What's the base model interior look like? Bare metal floorpan with overturned crates to sit on?

I believe the Yugo had carpeting listed as a "feature" as well... :P

I looked at these in greater detail a year or so ago. They appear to use a G10B engine. This is a 1.0L 4 cylinder engine. Beyond this, I don't know much about it.

Yes, it would be neat to import some of these as parts cars if nothing else to rebuild some of our aging cars.

The base interior, including seat covers, door panels, and headliner is vinyl plastic (leather imitation). That's why fabric is listed as upgrade.

Reviews of the car complain about cheap look and feel of the base interior.

Floor carpet is standard. Optional are 4 removable factory carpets with Suzuki logo.

That's true. The emissions are up to European standards, which specify HC and CO, but not NOX. But in Pakistan, compliance with European standards (hence the name "Euro") is justification to peddle it as environmentally friendly vehicle. No airbags, even as an option, is a serious safety handicap.

The engine is G10B. K10 is a much newer (ca 2006-2008) 1L DOHC engine with reduced friction and higher compression than the G series. It is coupled to a different transmission that won't fit to the G series.

G10B, which is SOHC, was never used in American cars, but was very popular in India and other Asian countries. It has certain advantages over the 3-cylinder G10, including higher power, better fuel economy, and less vibration. Its torque peaks at lower rpm compared to G10. It is coupled to the same tranny as in our Metros, has same mounts as G13, and shares many parts with G13.

All cars that Suzuki now produces in Pakistan are obsolete models whose production in other countries ceased long time ago. Cultus Euro II was produced in Hungary (1992-2003) with the G10 engine, before production moved to Pakistan. Till 2007, the car was equipped with the G10 engine, and later on with G10B.

No airbags would be a sales feature to me.
