This guy was FLYING! I wonder if his car was stock or not. GM is usually pretty bad about putting a limiter on their cars so they probably at least used some type of programmer on this.

One of my friends used to have a red Mustang Cobra that was pretty hot. He had just done some work and floored it onto the highway to see how it did. He was taking off like a rocket when he saw flashing lights behind him so pulled over. They made him get out of the car and held him at gunpoint for a bit. Then the officer settled down and told him that there was no chance he could have caught him had he run. He then told him to slow down and let him go.

I was just wondering how they even caught him, if he was doing 171 mph.

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

"“You get used to seeing people going 65 or 70 and what that looks like. But I've never seen anything like this. It's like a rocket on wheels at that point," Hermantown Police Department Deputy Chief Shawn Padden told the newspaper.

It was the fastest speed the officer had ever seen, and he needed to accelerate his Dodge Charger Pursuit car up to 135 mph just to get close enough for the speed demon to see his lights.

As soon as he realized the law was on his tail, the unidentified 36-year-old driver slowed down and pulled over without incident. Padden issued him a citation for misdemeanor careless driving, which carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine and license revocation."

Reads like a FUCKIN COMMERCIAL...for a Chevrolet Camaro! Fuckin, BULLSHIT!

Check the driver's bank records. See how much GM's advertising campaign paid him for the stunt.

Someone that's better at math than me figure out how far the Camaro would have been down the road by the time the Cop reached even 135, if it was clocked at 171.

My gut tells me that there is no way in hell that the Cop would have caught up to him unless the guy saw the cop parked and immediately started slowing down. I'd even venture to say that when he clocked the car, the cop probably couldn't even tell what kind of car it was.

I'm far from a Conspiracy Theorist®, but when something looks like bullshit, reads like bullshit, and everything in it adds up to bullshit, gee, I wonder what it could be? :hmm :shit

Welcome to the wonderful world of Big Business, trying to control what we read and think, for the purposes of "advertising", in pursuit of, financial gain.

*Oh, dear gawd. I'm becoming dayle! Say it ain't so!* :banghead

Wait, did somebody mention my name? Hmmmm, guess I'll have to comment on this thread now.

No way a POS chevy could ever get up to 171.........unless........it was going downhill, with a tail wind, and a professional NASCAR driver behind the wheel. (plus it would need a full racecar engine in it)'

That story smells fishy. I wonder the reasoning behind Chevy hyping a car that will do 171 and probably cost $40K+. If memory serves me correctly the demographic for these particular cars are young men. How can a young man afford the mortgage on a car like that when he probably is only making at the most $15/hr.? The wonders of ten year financing, I guess.

Yeah, you guys may be right. Also, what does GM limit their cars to? They are notorious for governing their cars down. My Chevy truck cuts out at 98 mph (160 kmh). The engine has a lot left but the tires and suspension are not made for high speeds.

Someone that could afford this could also likely afford a programmer to override the factory limitations.

Either way, that is supercar speeds, not something most factory cars can achieve.

The Dodge charger pursuit vehical is governed to 129 mph......how did he manage 135?

If it is true, they should bust his Azz good. How many people could have been killed if he had hit them?

agreed that most factory cars cannot go that fast, but it's hardly "supercar" speed.

The bottom of the line Corvette will go 195. Supercar starts at 200.

Self-Declared "Genious"

A girl at work was talking about this story. She swears that she got her (heavily modified) nearly-new Camaro up to 151 on the highway once, and others chimed in on their top speed, all over 100 MPH. I quietly said, "Once... I got mine to around 90... going downhill... but by then it was shaking pretty bad"... :lol

I have no doubt that a new SS Camaro will reach 170mph if ungoverned.

Also, your view on "young people" is quite a ways off. Plus, this guy was in his mid-30s.
