Purolator Pure One Filters at K-Mart for $3.44; Good price?

I recently picked up a couple of Purolator Pure One Filters at the local K-Mart for like $3.44 each. Is this a good price?

I know GG and others like these filters a lot and suggest their use so figured that wasn't a bad deal. The K-Mart auto section leaves a lot to be desired and there was no filter lookup tool or book so be prepared to know the appropriate filter ahead of time or use your phone.

I have 8-10 oversized Metro filters left so was buying filters for the riding mower and the Mirage. The mower takes the factory size Metro filter so I know they have that one on hand.

I'd say it's pretty good. Cheaper than Advanced Auto over $6 a piece, and I think you got 'em cheaper than most places online. I usually use the Pure One filters as well. Do you have the yellow "grippy" ones? Purolator redesigned the filters, and they are phasing the grippy ones out.

Pure Ones for $3.44 is a fantastic price. :thumb

$6.99 at Advance Auto for the "regular "short" PureOne PL10241 with no discount, $5.59 with the 20% discount, $4.89 with the 30% off, and $4.19 + with the $40 off over $100 (depending on the total amount). That doesn't include Speed Perks rewards.

The "long" PL20195 is roughly .30 more.

My mower's Kohler Command engine also uses the same filter as the Metro so I use the Pure One "long" version (PL20195) on both of them, and I often use the filters to bump up Advance Auto online orders to the next discount level, so I may have 2-4 of them on hand at any time.

Also, Purolator has revamped their line of oil filters and there is a new filter similar in filtration quality to the Pure one, but is apparently designed to last up to 15,000 miles.

No more textured finish on the Pure Ones and colors are different now too - the Purolator Classic is now red, the Pure One is Blue, and the "15,000 mile" Purolater Boss is black. Mt9999999999999 recently bought a 'Boss, " maybe he remembers roughly how much they were at the parts store at retail price.

The ones I got were the yellow grippy texture ones so maybe I should go back for more. I only bought two. One was for the mower and one for the GF's Mirage. My current Kohler Comand engine can only take the short Metro one. I have had ones in the past with the room for the large one. That was a KOhler Courage and the only good thing about that engine. The Command series seems very well made but the Courage is just a cheaped out line for Lowes, Home Depot, etc. The one I had was one issue after another.

You might check your local K-Mart for these filters. Like everything else there, the auto section is pretty hit or miss.

The one here is still in business. It is a great place to go for the pharmacy, etc. as there is never a line. The place is real hit or miss on certain things but is great if you want to avoid the crowds at Wal-Mart.

I had better stock up on some filters while that lasts! My mower only has room for the PL10241. Anything longer or wider will not fit. The Mirage filter is a PL14610. It looks like a longer one of this style would fit if it exists but there is no room for a wider one on these cars.

Same size and part number filter, just not grippy anymore. I didn't go out and stock up on these, probably because I don't have room next to the $300 plus of 100, 75, and 60 Watt light bulbs that I stocked up on when "they" announced that manufactures are no longer allowed to make or import incandescent bulbs. :lol

I couldn't say the price. I don't think I've ever bought a single oil filter, I always buy them as a package deal with oil. I usually get semi-synthetic that comes with a pure one filter, just "one" now. This past time, I bought a quality (Valvoline syn power) full synthetic oil and it came with the new boss filter, at just around $30. :thumb

We have a K-Mart as well. It's pretty dead as well, but I go there because the giant loud 90's cash registers make me laugh... :lol Also, the fact that there is little to no wait. Unfortunately, it isn't one of the "Super-K" whatever stores, so there are no slushies or Little Cesar's... :( I don't know how much longer they will be around. From the looks of it, they are going the way of Hills. But I liked Hills better. At least you don't have to worry about K-Mart running out of those filters, they'll probably sit around a while like everything else there. I think I'll have to go check for some at my K-Mart! :D

Well I went back to mine today to get some for the Mirage and they were out of that one and that one only. I will probably get a few more for the mower but didn't have the number with me at the time and there is no lookup. I usually tear the lids off the boxes of a filter and put it in the glovebox so I always know which one I need.

Not to jump this thread, but I'm curious as to how often you guys replace the oil in your riding lawn mowers. I do it once a year in the spring, if the oil is dirty. Otherwise I continue to use last years oil. Is this wrong?

Once per year no matter what. I like to change it when I put it away so fresh oil is in it all winter, not contaminated stuff. There are times I do it more, but once per year is needed for sure.

I may have to stop by WM then but the place is so crowded all the time that some other car guy would have cleared them out before I ever see them.

Our Walmart dumped them months ago. None left... wonder why? Oh well, guess I'll just buy oil at another store to save the trip...
