The oil is usually so much cheaper at WM unless you find a sale at a parts store, then it is about the same price. The AC Delco, Motorcraft and some of the upper-end Frams are good and can be bought at WM, though I would avoid the basic orange Fram. Cono |

Well, I went into K-Mart yesterday to pickup some PL10241 filters for my mowers. I changed the oil on one yesterday and realized I needed another filter for the other one. Anyway, the sale price was marked down even lower. It was either $2.94 or $3.24 as all the filters were shown at this price but the organization of the shelf was poor. Anyway, they rang up to $6 something and I explained that they were on sale. She said that this was the price so I said I didn't want any. I worked at a K-Mart as a teenager years ago and they never had the prices in the computer correctly. You would think with all the advances in technology, they would have a decent inventory system but I guess not. The equipment they use is probably from the days when I worked at one from what I can tell though. Then they had some of the worst music playing in the place during all this. It was some annoying pop music or attempt at pop music. I don't like pop music much but this was down another grade or two from most. I remember that years ago from when I worked there. I remember discussing with other co-workers about the songs you heard repeat each hour playing in your dreams. Other stores don't play music. Wal-Mart and others such as all the groceries around here are just nothing until there is an announcement or page for someone. Why does K-Mart think this is a good idea? Maybe this is yet another reason why I saw they were closing like 70 more stores. My girlfriend prefers the place to Wal-Mart and that is how I got back into going in the place. The rewards program is actually decent and there are some good deals. Overall things are anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars more. Even with the rewards and coupons it is often still cheaper to buy the same items somewhere else. Certain basic items like soap, toilet paper, and cat litter have obviously been flagged by their rewards program as items I buy. I can usually get $1 off the type of cat litter I use which brings it down to the same price as Wal-Mart and once a month or so they up the rewards to $4 off so that is a good deal. Anyway, I actually thought the customer service had improved there until yesterday. I may return and try again if they are still there in a week or so. Conor |

I would have insisted that she go check the prices again, and I wouldn't have left until I got the marked price on the filters. Ask for a manager, that's not right! |

I was in a hurry and didn't feel like arguing with someone this dumb. I just wasn't in the mood to deal with dumb people yesterday for some reason. It was the weekend and I deal with them all the time so I need a break from it. I will return some other time, maybe tomorrow, and try to get the remaining ones at one of the posted prices. Either one is a good deal. Anyway, I found a new M1-102 filter sitting in my shed so changed the oil in my other mower which is the one I have had for a while. I usually change my oil in the fall when I am done with the mower so it has fresh oil in in it but got distracted with some emergencies last year and the mower was put away without an oil change as I had more important things to deal with. Anyway, I ran it a while to get the oil good and hot and drained it. I was amazed at how well the oil held up. This is a Kohler Command 16 HP vertical which has been a great engine so far. I run it far harder than it was probably meant to be run. I really need to get myself a tractor out here and that is on my to-do list but for now the riding mowers do the job. I was also running the Rotella T6 5W40 full synthetic oil in this so that might have been part of the deal. I really like the Command series of engines. My big complaint is the inverted oil filter mount. Crap always falls into the oil filter mount and I have to wipe out all the oil and dirt with paper towels until it is basically dry. At least most of this falls into the intake side of the filter so will get filtered out if any remains which I am sure some does. The Kohler Courage is a different story. Don't get me started on that piece of junk. I have a really nice 54 inch mower that doesn't serve any purpose in life because one of these crapped out. The body is in perfect shape and all spindles and belts were replaced before the engine died. I am not the only one who has had problems with these and know there were several class action lawsuits about these breaking down. Conor |

The pricing on the purolator pure one filters here are 5.89 and tax. You have a heck of a deal on the pricing there! Wish it was here lol! Brian in NC Customer service has certainly gone wayyyyyy down in corporate America! I realized after already hitting the post button that you had a pricing discrepancy. I would have personally not left for purchasing what I wanted at the shelf price!!! The careless organization is on them not you the customer!

Yes, I thought much the same. I left without buying anything. My girlfriend prefers the place to Wal-Mart. I don't really like either but they have a purpose in life. Mobil 1 oil is half the price it is anywhere else at Wal-Mart and that is a normal, not sale price. You can sometimes get pretty comparable when they do those 5 quarts and a filter sale but you have to keep an eye out. Also, sometimes it is just the basic orange Fram and you have to pay quite a bit extra to get an upgraded Fram or different brand. Conor |

Be careful, Puro had some real problems with the media tearing on the Pure Ones. There was an update that corrected it, but it's down to the date code on the filter. |

I read something about that on the Mirage forum. Anyway, anyone have the date codes to avoid? How long ago was this? With K-Mart, they could still be sitting on the shelf. Conor |
