Hadn't realized they made a swift (Even a sedan) with a 1.6l...until I saw this pic in an ad: ![]() ...and looked it up. Interesting.

I have almost everything I need to swap in an Esteem engine, but I am curious to know whether or not the shift linkage and engine mounts( on the 1.6 Swifts), are the same as the 4-cyl Metro's. I think because the bore spacing is the same as the G16, the mounts should be at least compatible. Stupid catalyst for the late model G engines is $400 here in CA. It is one of the last things I need... and a bitter pill to swallow. |

Not sure about the mounts but the shifter is dual cable and the transmission uses a hydraulic master and slave cylinder. |

Yes, that's true. Unfortunately making something like that work on my Metro will cause me commit suicide. I guy on TS did that and it is a lot of extra work. I believe that the block will be located laterally in the same place as the GTI I got the linkage from. It might be possible to use the trans from an SX4 or something similar, but I am not sure enough about that. |
