Topix Web Forum; I thought Facebook was pretty much the low end until this!

I recently had another interaction with a "quality" customer. This person is claiming I am depriving his crying son of his favorite toy (XBOX 360) but apparently it isn't worth $30 for the guy to get it back in working order. The thing was PACKED FULL of dry brown dust and looked like it had been used on a construction site or something. It was a mess. Dry clogs of crumbly brown dust were falling out of the thing and into it as I removed parts. I have no doubt dirt was his cause of issues as the cooling system was 100% blocked. There must have been a pound or more of dirt inside this thing. Well I cleaned non-electronic parts in the kitchen sink with warm soapy water so you could eat off them in the literal sense. I then spent a couple hours total cleaning the electronics with cotton swaps, toothpicks, and rubbing alcohol. The thing looked great inside once I was done and thought I was doing a good service. These units are notorious for overheating and frying the NVIDIA graphics chip so it wouldn't have lasted long with the heatsink completely full of dirt to where you couldn't see the fins. I told him it would be $30 extra for this and I would put it back together to which he blew up and started threatening me. Once this crap happens, I am done with the person.

He will not agree to meet me unless the thing is back together in perfect shape and says I have "stolen" his unit. Once the threats started, I decided to call local law enforcement. The Sheriff's Dept said I could arrange to meet him in the lobby with a deputy present to transfer his property back to him. Basically he is not agreeing to get it back not fixed (which would cost him $30) and claim I had stolen his property.

He is now threatening to "out" me on Topix for depriving his 8 year old kid of his favorite toy. I had been on this site a long time ago and obviously wasn't impressed as I haven't been back since. Basically this guy is an idiot because he could have a perfectly clean XBOX 360 back for $30 more which is a steal if you ask me. I was kinda upset about this at first and then went on the site (see below) and realized he was probably doing me a service by steering the idiots I always complain about away from me so I don't have to deal with them. I also told him I wouldn't hesitate to make an example of him if this comes to slander/libel.

So, if you want to know the snitches in my town, that is near the top of the list. The fact that the new grocery store Price Chopper also sells adult toys is also up there on the list. This is obviously a quality group of people. And I thought Facebook attracted the lowest of the low....

Connor, I started playing around with links to the forums on that site, and a page was blocked, with Norton popping up on my computer saying it blocked a threatening download. I didn't click on an advertisement, just one of the forum pages. Just when you think a site can't get any worse...

Oh, I didn't really click anything. The topic headers were bad enough. So when the people screw up their computers using this crap, they at least won't bring it to me. Anyone using the site looks like bad news.

lol xbox 360 is dead, dont know why any one would fix a disposable electronic like that, when they take a dump they are trash. and i didnt now nvidia made the gpu in them, thought they were multi core Gpu-cpu hybrids running system ram for everything. but i could be wrong consoles are weird. not worth your time with this guy. if your service was any thing like how i cleaned my PC out after all my home construction $30 would not equate to $10 an hour. take the thing apart, half hour, clean it, half hour plastics half hour electronics, hour to test and assemble you made like no money.

Yet another waste of space that shouldn't exist...

The person, not the xbox.

I have run into some great and interesting people in my time doing this type of work. I recently worked on some equipment for a guy who was on one of the aircraft carriers that recovered the Apollo moon mission astronauts and capsule. The guy wasn't stupid and was great to work for. He is also in business for himself, not just sitting there collecting social security.

Unfortunately I have run into some completely unreasonable idiots like this one. Yes, I took a MAJOR loss on this one and the fact I had to deal with this idiot made it totally not worth it. I find people in business don't mind paying me more than this job would have paid to travel and show up onsite. Those operating ATM machines, point of sale systems, etc. don't mind paying some bucks to have them setup correctly.

I had an interesting POS system the other day. It was OLD or so I thought so. It was operating on a Windows XP machine that was being replaced (good riddance). I told the guy right off the bat that this was likely all going to have to be replaced because his new machine was Windows 10. Anyway, the stuff is still all supported with Windows 10 drivers available and it is all still currently available for sale new. This is the difference between consumer equipment and commercial stuff. You upgrade an OS and must trash all your printers and scanners. His receipt printer went right in and worked like a champ as did the bar code scanners. He was happy to not have to replace all the POS stuff.

I have found out that I am one of the only few people still servicing individual consumers in this area. This is both good and bad for me. I get some good ones but also some CRAP like this. I am getting into enough businesses that I think I might quit the consumer work altogether except for those I have worked with in the past that weren't idiots.

The people who have done something with their life and know what it takes are the ones I enjoy dealing with the most. They don't bitch about your price. They are just happy people are willing to show up onsite and do quality work for them.

I love these Chevron commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5hc8l_VPdk America was built by people who thought outside the box, not those who sit on their asses watching TV and collecting welfare checks.

(Editor's note: POS in this instance means "point of sale", not piece of :shit )

I think both meanings apply when they are still using Windows XP. :) I still have a few people who haven't upgraded and have had to replace printers and such for them. I always make sure the replacement units will also work with the newer OSes, figuring that the days of being on XP are numbered.
