I'm aware of a general complications inherent to an automatic over a manual and have accepting them as reasonable risks for the benefit of getting the missus more interested...plus, being able to do some uphill rock runs and trails is appealing. I think you guys got this covered for me. What you guys have mentioned I'm pretty aware of....like the risks of an old engine. Either this forum suffers greatly from expertise syndrome or these motors really don't have any noteworthy quirks or problems. I'm probably going to go with the one I can get a better deal on. |

That's great! Many of us are experts in specific areas but we spend lots of time around "non-experts." |

For the application that you sound like your using it for I would stick with the engine that the car is wired for. Both are relatively plentiful since your not talking about a g13b and are talking about a g13bb. I owned both g10 cars and g13b, but not a g13bb. I absolutely love my dohc g13b. I also still enjoy driving my g10s, but they really are not comparable in the style I enjoy driving. If I'm going for an extensive long drive or moving stuff around my g10s are my choice. If I'm going for enjoyable ride where the car will handle most things I throw at it will be my g13b. Others will have to chime in on the g13bb, but really not comparble to the g13b for the enjoyable ride.

Another member here says the car is a G13A (Single cam, 8 valve). The engine the buggy is wired for is an F8B...the reason I'm swapping is because the F8B is hard to find parts for in the states and, if I'm investing that kind of effort, I want more than 35whp out of it. |

My bad it would be a G13A or G13BA. Both look to be 1.3 8 valves with slight differences. |

The G13BA all aluminum? I know the auotmatic tranny will make it a bit heavier, but all the same a lighter engine. |

Whatever engine you choose, you will likely need to integrate from the donor car, the wiring harness including the ECU to support fuel injection. .. edit: not familiar with the F8B but don't early 80's Suzuki engines generally use carburetors? (and cover your ears, youngsters.. a point ignition system?) .. and I think the G10 and G13 engines while made of aluminum have pressed in cast iron cylinder sleeves.

Everything will come over from the donor car. Te genuine Suzuki F8 powered vehicles were carbureted. The Chinese buggies with F8's are multi-port fuel injected. |

Well that took care of that...the guy with the wrecked G13 geo wants $1000 for the car or $750 for just the engine. I told him we were so far apart on values that there was no more need for us to discuss it. I might fish around and see what other cars are out there...maybe fall back on a Civic...but probably going to end up back at the G10 Metro. |

So... I came across another Metro at a salvage lot. These guys say it's a 2003 but my reading says there was no Metro in 2003. It's a four cylinder and has multi-port injectors...245k miles on the dash...and the guy is asking $500 if I pull everything I want off it and bring the carcass back (scrap yards can't sell whole cars). The thing was wrecked pretty good so I know it ran all the way up to that point, registration and inspection are still good on it meaning it was on the road less than a year ago, and the guy says it was wrecked in February. So that's in the mix. It's a G13 with an automatic...that's the only reason I'm considering it. |

sounds like a SOHC 16 valve, next best thing to a DOHC, but high mileage? |

Looking at the G-series wiki page it looks like a G13BB. If healthy it's an 80hp/80lb engine. I might have to rebuild it, but I don't think the mileage really makes that determination. The other engine I'm looking at is a 150k G10 and I may have to rebuild that one, too. My biggest concern is size...the G13 is much longer than the G10 (and MUCH longer than my existing F8B). If I'm going to go through the hassle of swapping in that engine, which will force me to either make some SERIOUS changes to my suspension OR sacrifice nearly 7 inches of wheel travel, do I want to do it for only 80hp? I'd have to make the same changes for a Honda D16, but I'd get another 20~40hp out of that. The G10 will be less than 1/3 the cost after scrap and parts are sold, but will be 50hp...and I'm not sure I'll be happy with that. It'll fit into my frame with no drama though. I can boost it, but I'm having a hard time getting straight answers about how to handle the fueling other than going to a stand alone. |
