My Geo. This car is a reincarnation of a 1982 VW rabbit to which was a great car that had less blemishes than a 8 year model old car on the road today. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it. Now its in scrap heaven. I went up in Connecticut to get this one saw she had silver brake lines and drove her 500 miles back home. I swore a blood oath to restore her. Bodywork would obviously be the first place before anything else. This cars an oddity, whoever owned it kept up on the paint because there isn't a single blemish but the underbody needs work. I believe the frame horns will probably need some restoration as well i did not look closely. As you can see in one picture the drivers side pinch weld completely separated from the rocker panel. The passenger side rocker panel is rotted away.

Got the link for your album, at http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/tfox888/library/Geo instead of the slideshow link, and embedded all 9 of the photos you had in the slideshow. -Mythstae

Welcome

You should take a close look at the control arm mounting horns before you put too much effort in to the rocker and floor repair. There's a guy in Mercer, PA who does pretty extensive repairs, he goes by PA.metro, fixer, frames, ect on this forum.

Looks awesome! Minus the floor rust. I hope you can weld, then you'll be even better off than me. And I second PA Metro fixer to take a look at it if the frame horns need work, he isn't far from you or myself.

Yep. And when the floors are repaired, it won't have to go bottomless! :P

Here's a little update on those Frame horns I didn't take a picture of the underneath of the front frame horns. Rest assured they are in good condition with a little surface rust on the horn frame on the drivers side and the passengers side has a little more corrosion on the horn Plate itself. Im excited by these pictures. I hope you fellas are too. http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/tfox888/library/Geo/fram%20horns

Those are actually the strut towers, which do look great by the way! Better than the ones on my South Carolina XFi. The frame horns that we are referring to are down lower under the the strut towers up front. The CV joints from the transmission to the wheels pass through them. Nothing really to look at in the rears.

This one looks fairly clean:

Haha, thank you, i know quarter panels, subframes, and rockers, thats the extent of my body knowledge! When you told me those weren't the moneymakers i cringed, but luckily i crossed my fingers said 'no whammys' and hit the stop button and got lucky again! Here's those Horns. Whoever did the 'repaint' did a good job on this thing. The engine cab looks cleaner than some of the new cars fellas i know are driving. That bottom horn picture almost turned my hair white lol. Sorry i didn't embed them properly i don't know which link to use. http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/tfox888/library/Geo/fram%20horns

Looks like you have a good set! :thumb

However, they rust from the inside - out. Lots of members on here recommend using one of the small holes that the plastic wheel wells pop into to feed a hose in and spray the inside with rust converter, such as Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating (linked below). It's not cheap, but it does the job well. Others have told me that you can just squirt used gear lube around the inside liberally to coat the whole thing. One way or the other, it is recommend to coat the insides to preserve them for future years.

I haven't done mine yet, but I will be soon, and have a can at home. Not sure how many cans it will take, but one ought to do it if you go light. It is especially recommended in the area the we live in... My convertible sure won't be seeing any salty winters with my other cars on hand. Good luck!

Also, you can click on the "IMG" button on Photobucket which inserts the [ IMG ] brackets before and after the image so posting that exact link onto the forum will display an embedded image. Or, you can manually highlight and copy the image URL from the Photobucket page and use the IMG button on the forum (full-screen) reply page to embed the image.

Either will have the same result.

Awesome Possum. I'll have to check that out visually, i've done alot of coatings on my other car, rust converts, salt resist paints, that will all be redone on this geo not just the bad spots. I had the front subframe replaced on my other car when i got it, i'll have to get the rear done next year for inspection but i didn't care it didn't cost an arm and leg. Love peoples fears and 'give up's' with a little frame rot. I personally like spraying wd-40 throughout the subframe and panels. That's a good pretreat. I heard of one fella doing that once, never had a spot of the "evil red" on his car. :thumb
