Hi there, Can anyone tell me if I have power steering or not? I have the owner's manual but I think it gives advice for different models. I own a 1996 Geo Metro, four door, four cylinder. I do not believe this car has power anything! Is there a way to check for sure? It definitely is hard to steer from a idle position, but it's okay while the car is moving. Do I have rack and pinion? If you need more information, I would be glad to provide it. Thanks! |

Maybe..... Go look in the engine bay.... Look for a PS fluid reservoir, if you find it you have it! See link....... http://www.ehow.com/how_4507348_maintain-powersteering-fluid-levels-geo.html |

If you can turn your steering wheel with only one finger while stopped and with the engine running... Yes, you either have power steering, or really strong finger muscles. |

Look at the front of the engine, near the right strut tower...there will be a power steering reservoir attached to the strut tower bolts...

You have rack and pinion steering no matter what, the question is whether you have power steering or not. From your description of the steering effort, it sounds like no. In geogonfa's picture above, on the left side of the picture, the black bracket with two silver nuts holding it on to the strut tower at the top and the black bottle with a removable cap at the bottom is the power steering reservoir. If you don't have this, then make sure your front tires have 35 psi in them, and get the car moving a little bit before turning the steering wheel, this will make it easier to turn. |

Most of the four door, four cylinder, 95+ Metros have power steering. It might just need some power steering fluid. |
